Bethesda

The only way this could be going worse is if it was a mobile game

It's awful, but it's not exactly rare for uninstallers not to work. The terms always include acceptance that software can have bugs and they take no responsibility for not being fit for purpose etc. so it won't be illegal.

First people gripe that the Beta deletes itself and then they moan when it can't be deleted  .

I am joking.

From reading the article it's a bug with the activation servers being unavailable. Once the servers go live it sounds like the beta client should be able to check in.

On the other hand, requiring the client to make any kind of online check just to uninstall is incredibly poor design.

Those of you buying Fallout 76 on one of those old fashioned blu-ray things will find the game needs 45GB to install, which will take a while. But hey, it’s utterly pointless anyway as as soon as you’ve done that you’ll need to get the day one patch which is even bigger, clocking in at over 51GB.

The update was spotted by PSU as some disc copies of the game are already in the hands on players, the game officially launches on November 14th

  what's the point of putting anything on the disc?

https://www.vg247.com/2018/11/14/fallou ... character/

Beta players who progressed quests etc won't get them automatically unlocked if they carry progress over, they'll have to start a new character. Small thing, but will annoy some people.

Has anyone actually bought this then? It was out today right?

Does anyone else feel they chose to release this just after Red Dead so they could blame the gooseberry fool sales on that?

Played this for a little under 5 hours last night and I've hit level 6, here are my thoughts:

There is a LOT of lore

The first town has well over a dozen holotapes/audio logs to find. It has even more notes and terminals to read. When the above article says the game is better in single player for letting you stop to consume all the lore at your own pace, I certainly agree so far. The lore is always good to absorb in Fallout and 76 seems to be no exception.

The level/perks system is cool

You start with 1 across all SPECIAL skills and can upgrade 1 per level. You also however get to pick a new perk card each level, but rather than just unlocking you have to equip these, with your SPECIAL stats constraining what level of perks you can equip. I think it's a good system.

Melee is way more important

More enemies in general and the inability to pause with VATS means that I've been meleeing a lot, something I've mostly avoided in previous games. I think it's good and feels more survival focused.

There is more stuff to build, but building is more restricted than in Fallout 4

Sure you can build "anywhere" (actually, anywhere that isn't within a certain distance of a named location), but the area is pretty small, the budget doesn't seem huge, and you now have to use foundations for all buildings (so no just placing walls down randomly for example). I've already built my first proper little camp on a bridge just outside the starting town, and I'm definitely going to get very into building. Pretty much everything needs to be unlocked, but I think that's good as I'll hopefully constantly be getting new things to build (that seems to be the case so far). Lots of the new structures look very cool and open up a lot of options, and I like the blueprint system for saving individual structures and being able to easily remake them.

Multiplayer seems fine so far

My first interaction, just outside of Vault 76, was to meet a guy at a shack. We waved and then he sat down and started playing the harmonica. I sat next to him and played the banjo. We jammed, then we went our separate ways. The next person I ran into was fighting off a horde of scorched in a farmstead. I ran in with my axe and helped him out. It felt good. Mostly though I've been seeing the odd person (especially when there were a lot at one time in the starting town), but otherwise ignoring them. I only unlocked PVP at level 5 but I haven't experienced it yet.

Nowhere is safe

Unlike previous games, clearing out a location doesn't make it safe until hours later when the enemies can respawn. Enemies can and will reappear often, and combined with the lack of pausing that makes everywhere always feel a little dangerous. I like it.

Survival elements feel like New Vegas

Ammo weight, repairing weapons and armour, food and water - all very New Vegas hardcore mode. This is a good thing!

More verticality

From the little I've seen of the map so far, it has impressive verticality in terrain. Fallout 3 and NV were quite flat, while F4 mainly got verticality through its large buildings. Here the terrain itself rises and falls dramatically, and I think that adds to the interest.

So yes, I've already got into this and it still feels very fallout :toot:

Jimpressions "Dogshit. A boring, lifeless, dull world"

Yep, think I'll stick with FO3 & Vegas. Can't see the point in forcing yourself to enjoy something that you know, deep down, is uttter crud.

It's going to be interesting to see the sales figures on this.

And player numbers in 6 months time.

I feel that the game has all the hallmarks of a No Man's Sky kinda development cycle; albeit without the initial high sales!

I'm happy to have dived in for Day One as, for my likes and tolerances, there's more than enough to keep me happy... rather like with NMS. I'm not quite sure what this says about my gaming tastes!*

As an aside, the in-game Atomic Shop is odd; I'm not against paying for cosmetic items - I like 'em! - but the ones in store now look pretty dull and are super expensive.

*Don't answer that ;-) .

I think reviews will be quite mixed, but nothing along the lines of very high praise.

It's a shame it's not been well received going on feedback from the beta, I was genuinely looking to it at one point.

I still see this hitting Gamepass/PS+ within the year, which might get player numbers up for a bit.
