and both Jimmy and Chuck went back on their errors.

They're both brothers as bad as each other.

When did Chuck go back on anything?

He offered to not sue HHM and Howard turned him down.

How does that count? He offered to not sue if he wasn't fired. It's not the same thing, like, at all.

Maybe we're reading into this differently....

How I read it is....

Chuck flexes his muscles to make a point. Then he backs down and doesn't want to go through with the legal case.

Howard obviously doesn't like it, and pays him off so that he has no more leverage with HHM.

To go back to your original comment "When did Chuck go back on anything?". I interpret Chuck's actions as "going back on his decision".

Our interpretations are obviously different, but that's no problem.

Chuck was suing HHM for forcing him into retirement.

Chuck offered to drop the case if they didn't force him into retirement.

Chuck didn't go back on anything there. Although to be fair he looked a little guilty that it was Howard's own money. He still took the cheque though.

When they set up at the side of the road I thought a truck was going to plough into them.

Christ that was dark. Didn't think it would come to suicide.

I think they captured why he killed himself very well with him destroying the house. He was at wits end, I wonder how much time will pass when the next Season passes. I'd like to see how Jimmy processes Chucks death.

i didn't interpret as him killing himself deliberately. He had a massive relapse on account of being forced out of HHM and then his argument with Jimmy sent him spiralling into his madness. If
You look at his face while he was kicking the table it didn't seem as though he was focused on anything and just seemed in a daze. It didn't look like he had set the house up to burn that was just a byproduct of his obsession to find what was using electricity

Of course I could be wrong, he was in a pretty dark place.

It seemed pretty intentional to me, the last few kicks were really hard to get that thing to go.

Yeah he definitely did that on purpose.

I definitely think he kicked it on purpose I just don't think he knew the consequences

Wait what? How could've not know the consequences?

There is literally no ambiguity in the scene. He is ending his life, plain & simple. The writer of the episode speaks about it on the podcast, too.

I just assumed he wanted the light away from him and given his relapse was unable to move to move to do it safely.

Like the destruction of the house, that was not setting kindling, that was his desperate search for what was using electricity. I don't recall the scene perfectly but it didn't seem like he has deliberately stacked things to burn just he was sat in a zombie like state and wanted the light away from him.

Though I understand his mindset would have been suicidal.

I'm guessing I'm the only one who saw it differently then

Seemed like an obvious suicide to me.

Just about the worst option to choose however, slow death by fire is about the scariest "normal" (i.e. Not tortured to death) way to go.

gooseberry fool loads of painkillers and alcohol or jumping off a cliff would make more sense in a less terrifying way.

I'm with FatDaz. There were moments when he was kicking, that he really looked like he was out of it and didn't know what he was doing. No matter how messed up you are, I just can't imagine anyone wanting to burn to death.

I enjoyed that series more than any of the others. I've not been reading this topic as I didn't want to see any spoilers, but there are plenty of ways you could interpret Chuck's intentions with the "suicide". If you were going to kill yourself, just do it. The way he was doing it could be seen as a "Russian roulette" approach where not knowing which kick would start it off, but continuously doing it, knowing it would come sooner or later.

Or you could interpret it as someone who was just in a total mental collapse and was just in a spasm like continuous action. Or maybe someone who just didn't care anymore, knew what was going to happen if it fell but wasn't bothered whether it fell or not, or maybe felt that way at first but as the kicks seemed to get harder towards the end, it was taking too long.

You could say he was getting a kick out of it.
