How is that character going to carry a show with none of that?

Well look at me being utterly and hopelessly wrong :fp:

Loved the second episode, with the desert scene being tense as strawberry float :dread:

This is like breaking bad DLC, a big fat shivering isles expansion pack :datass:

Very enjoyable 2nd episode, hopefully it keeps it up.

Not quite getting the we know what happens complaint. We know the main character won't die in 99% of shows but that doesn't stop people enjoying the stories of Tony Soprano, Mulder & Scully, House etc etc. We know very little of Sauls past, he could be a millionaire by the end of this season but lose all his money when it blows off a cliff.

Another great episode.

I think 2 seasons sounds about right for the spin off prequel.

After a day's reflection I've come to the conclusion that Better Call Saul is fantastic, and so much better than I feared (so far). Really glad they've gone with the episodic descent into darkness, a la Breaking Bad, rather than non-continuous comedy episodes with Saul meeting weird and wonderful characters.

I really, really liked the first two episodes. It really is like having Breaking Bad back and doesn't suffer from being a second dip into the same universe.

Im very impressed by the first two episodes. I genuinely thought it wouldnt be up to much but it manages to strike a (slightly) lighter tone to BB while sharing a lot of its characteristics.

I was never even a big fan of Saul but have to admit to really liking him in the first two episodes. He's so painfully pathetic I can't help but root for him.

I've watched the first episode. Is this still set in Albuquerque?

Can't find the second episode on the high seas without strawberry floating subtitles. It has been three days, it should be out there!

The subtitle community has better shipmates than the hearing community. :x

Just a thought - doesn't the second episode open with subtitles? Have you checked the rest of the episode?

Yes, infact isn't the nail salon where his office is based the same one he tried to get Jesse to launder his money into?

I always remember in S1, where Jesse says "You don't need a Criminal Lawyer, you need a Criminal Lawyer."

It then cuts to Saul.

Do you think that meant Jesse and Saul had met before?

EDIT: This bit:

I'm really not fussed about seeing Jesse or Walt in this.

I think it's far more likely we'll see Badger or Skinny Pete show up.

Didn't think this would be much cop when I heard they were making it, but I was still interested in giving it a watch. Was pleasantly surprised when the reviews came out, and now, after watching the first 2 episodes, it's certainly exceeded my expectations. Saul's so pitiful that you can't help but like him.

Vaas outta nowhere too, that was a cool surprise. Really looking forward to next week's.

Watched the first two episodes last night and was thoroughly impressed. It feels like more Breaking Bad.

I caught up with this last night and loved it. I wasn't expecting to see anything post-BB or to see any familiar characters. Was great to see Tuco again.

Even though Saul was obviously going to survive the encounter I thought they did a good job of creating suspense. I did wince at the scene in the desert.

I don't understand the idea that tension is sacrificed because we know that Saul lives. We know that in 99% of movies and TV shows the main character will survive (at least until the end of the last episode of the show!).

I thought that the two kids that Saul was using for the scam were strawberry floating idiots and got away lightly with only having their legs broken. Jumping on the wrong car? :fp: Taking the piss out of Tuco's grandmother? :fp: Trying to grass Saul up when Tuco was about to let them go? :fp:
