Didn't this happen to someone else fairly recently too?

I'm kinda sad that he has, apparently, cheated. He made such a fantastic "bad guy"... he was great in the wonderful "King of Kong" film :) .

Yeah I think it was his mate.

Not sure what his name was, but he held a record for the game Dragster (I think) which was utterly impossible to actually achieve.

EDIT: Yup Dragster on the Atari 2600, with a 5.51 second record held by Todd Rogers was deemed impossible after various reviews. People took the game apart and even with TAS tools they found it wasn't possible to recreate the score. That record stood for 35 years before it was discredited.

Does this mean that all of his scores have been removed? He had a few scores on the board that had been achieved live.

From what I've read they will no longer host, or recognise any of his scores. They're not saying they're all bogus, but they will no longer acknowledge them.

I think it's all part of a house-cleaning that's taking part there. There have been serious concerns about the legitimacy of a lot of high-profile scores and the methods that are used to review and verify them.

Banning him altogether is basically Twin Galaxies signalling that they are serious about fixing that problem. If they'll ban Billy Mitchell, then they'll ban anyone found cheating.

People like Mitchell have built reputations and made money out of these records. It seems appropriate to me that if you're found cheating then you're done.

But I can see why some people question removing all of them.

Yeah, it makes sense. I remember looking at the score board and only a couple of his scores has contested next to it but he had ones further down that were uncontested. He should be made an example of though.

Hopefully this means a King Of Kong follow-up. :-)

It kind of sucks for Steve Wiebe because he should have been the number one Donkey Kong player for ages and he's kind of denied that recognition because of what happened.

Reading through these latest developments, I'm tempted to watch The King of Kong *again*. It's just so good.

It's a fantastic film although as most of the story has now been totally altered I don't know if it'd be the same film.

It's now called the king of funky Kong and costs £49.99 to watch it again.

Watched it the other week when the evidence came out. Just makes you think Mitchell's more of a banana split. That slimy guy that helps him...

I feel it is, lex - the characters are, for me, more mesmerising than the actual story. I haven't read too much so far about Mitchell being stripped of his records but - and I could be wrong - I think his original 874k record hasn't been called out as a cheat and he still stands as the first guy to get the max score on Pac-Man?

Mitchell is so full of himself, and comes out with so many wonderfully self-praising comments in the film, that it's fun to watch  .

The extras on the DVD are excellent, too - so many seriously hardcore gamers that are are so into their particular games of choice.
