Published by: Capcom
Developed by: GRIN
Release Date: May 22, 2009, PC: July 2009
Genre: Action

Plot
The events of the game take place ten years after the NES installment. According to Capcom's press release, this iteration follows Nathan "RAD" Spencer (voiced by Mike Patton, Faith No More lead singer), and a government operative working in the fictional Ascension City and an Operative for the Tactical Arms and Security Committee or T.A.S.C which specializes in training bionic commandos like Spencer. After he is betrayed by his own government and falsely imprisoned, the Great Bionic Purge begins. Before his execution, an experimental weapon detonates in Ascension City, unleashing an earthquake along with a radioactive shockwave that leaves the city destroyed and wiping out its populace, with the threat of an invasion from a terrorist force known as the "BioReign". Spencer is now freed to redeem his name along with the T.A.S.C's and is reunited with his bionic arm which he was stripped of.

Capcom have released some PS3 footage. Doesn't have the screen tearing of the 360 version but I wonder if it'll be hit by bad framerate to make up for it

Why do games like this seem so dull to me!

Goody goody gum drops. This better not suck balls after all this time.

That's because it is just like that, dull. I think it's the character design and coming from the download game I am so disapointed they are not going down the same route and make in more tongue-in-cheek

I'll enjoy the multiplayer demo purely for the swing around, hopefully it will allow custom matches and not just quick matches with idiots I don't want to play with.

If the swinging mechanism works well, it should be pretty good fun. The actual gunplay looks average but BC is not about the guns.

It does look good. i enjoyed the swinging mechanic in the spiderman games, but they were sometimes a little too automatic and the camera was fiddly. If this rides the right side of good swinging targeting and good camera movement it should be good. Although having said that is this looks like its somewhere between crackdown and spiderman / force unleashed.

360 only MP demo coming tomorrow

Capcom will release the multiplayer demo for Bionic Commando on Xbox Live Marketplace tomorrow.

The publisher kept us waiting until the last minute for a specific date, telling us a demo would arrive sometime in "the coming weeks". Capcom also said there are "no plans" to offer a similar demo on PS3.

The demo will include the Vertigo map, on which up to eight friends can swing around and try to kill each other. Of course, the inclusion of a bionic arm - the game's main attraction - mixes the regular Deathmatch formula up.

These are best illustrated by Tom Bramwell, who filmed himself getting to grips with the third-person action game for Eurogamer TV. Watch him struggle at first, before becoming competent and then rather adept, as is his way.

Bionic Commando launches for PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 on 22nd May. Check out our hands-on impressions to see how the game's shaping up.

Is there an official thread for this yet, or, will this end up being it?

Cheers Sarge. I was convinced I saw one but a search didn't find this thread. I swear that Search function is broken.

Anyways I'm surprised to say that I'm actually enjoying this so far. It looks pretty average, really average actually, but the gameplay is fun to mess around with...jumping about strangely feels like Crackdown (bigish leaps) and swinging from pillar to post is very satisfying. It's one of those games I don't really care about but it's compelling enough to keep me happy.

Tricky controls though...I'm sure it could have been simpler.

Is that based on the MP demo, or do you have the game?

I love it, based on my multiplayer experience. Not so keen on the actual multiplayer, but it's enough to show me that the game controls and plays exactly how I hoped it would, and that I'll enjoy it.

Super(cow).
