But what would you have to do if your house got burgled and all your gooseberry fool like PCs and consoles got robbed?

Obviously you can just replace TV's and but what about all your personal info stored on things like consoles? Obviously with a PC, your username is password protected to get into every time so surely then that would mean things like Steam accounts and stuff would be safe if a robber stole your PC.

But for PS3/360/etc, when it automatically signs you in to your profile. What the strawberry float would you do? Would Microsoft be able to sort it out and give you a new account with all your arcade games, add ons, etc? I know if you go online and change your password, the 360/PS3 just auto sign you in without asking for your new password.

I dunno, I was just at work today and was feel really paranoid about that kind of thing and just wondered. Has anyone ever been unfortunate enough to have this happen to them? Or does everyone else enter their password everytime they log in to their 360s to avoid such a problem?

Scary stuff

change passwords, log into the XBOX.com site and ban the console.

call insurance company, get them to give me money to rebuy it all, log back in and still have saves due to cloud. :D

Exactly. But I get the sense that TragicMagic was alluding to someone taking the hard drive out of his PC and putting it in another base unit, then accessing his full collection of (possibly) inappropriate and bizarre images. In Windows you can encrypt folders. But I can't remember how. I don't know if it's possible to encrypt an entire drive and if it slows down performance?

Also, Dropbox, Microsoft Skydrive and Google all give 2GB of Cloud storage. You can use that to back up any info you need to keep safe.

If it doesn't, it's not worth having.

It's really easy to get Dropbox up to 50gb free, just sit through their tutorial, register a couple of devices, etc.

For encryption BitLocker is very good but you need to have the Ultimate version of Win7 and have TPM chip in your device.

Are you sure? I know you can get a total of 5GB by jumping through hoops and uploading a million photos. But 50GB would be great.

My laptop did get stolen whilst I was living in London. But I had everything I really needed on Dropbox, so it was all gravy.

You can add a pass code to the 360 that you have to put in every time you log in. It uses the X/Y buttons and triggers.

make sure all your doors and windows are locked before you leave your property. Hide valueable items from being seen through windows or draw the curtains etc

I just put everything on wheels. I actually go about the house on roller skates and hot pants, holding the TV at arms length to offset the fear of visibility to a passing yob.
