I know it's slightly early for this but what the hell.

I'm hoping for a decent deal on a new QLED TV (It's almost an oled but cheaper :shifty: ) and maybe bag a new pair of shoes and trainers.
So, are you all hoping the new US traditional splurging season will bring you any bargains or are you against this type of thing?

On a side note I'm trying to post a gif of "careful now" where she keeps showing different cards with the same words and can't work out how to do it because I suck at the internets and I'm old.

I just realised I put this in the games folder :fp: . strawberry floating blast it all to hell I'm not doing a very good job here at all.

I mainly use it as an excuse to book a Friday off work and claim I'm looking for bargains :shifty: . I'll check amazon and John Lewis a few times during the day but I'm not going into actual shops.

I think after the riots where people fought over rubbish panasonic tvs most big stores have reigned it in due to the bad publicity.

Never participated, always reeks of companies trying to flog their old stock and dressing it up as a great deal. No thanks.

You know its actually nothing like an OLED, right?

Also if you are comparing 55" sets the prices aren't that far apart. It's the possible gaming burn-in issues that are putting me off an OLED rather than the price at the moment.

Definitely be getting a 4K HDR TV in the next month or so though, I'm going to be picky about the model though so I'm not sure its even worth waiting for Black Friday.

Fixed to highlight just how daft people were.

I'm looking to upgrade my home WiFi to a mesh setup so if I see a deal on that between now and Christmas I'll probably take the plunge.

I've no interest in upgrading to a 4K TV right now. We're almost certainly going to see variable refresh rate TVs launched at CES in January and after seeing how big a difference Freesync and G Sync make in PC gaming I'm going to wait for that tech to come to TVs.

Black Friday is the second best time of the year to purchase a 4KTV (the best being just prior to them being replaced with a new model in March-ish, though you risk missing your purchasing opportunity entirely at that point).

I think there's something intentionally cynical about the name "QLED", but there's a number of reasons why I don't think OLED is currently worth the price premiums either (screen burn-in; reduced life expectancy; greatly reduced screen brightness for HDR gaming; input lag and software being no different to cheaper TVs on the Sony, and while a phenomenal piece of design incorporating the sound into the screen, an ultimately inferior option to either a separate sound system or bar).

OLED undoubtedly offers the most impressive picture currently available, but in a real-world home setting, I would still opt for a top of the range LCD/LED from Samsung, Sony or Panasonic.

A top of the range LCD/LED screen is going to be much more expensive than an OLED though, its not really an option as much as I'd like a ZD9.

Well okay, maybe not top-top of the range, but just under it. Though there are trade offs on every TV. For example I believe the ZD9 judders on 24fps playback, whereas other supposedly lesser models do not. That would annoy me, as it did on a Samsung I used to own. So it depends what you're going to be using it for and what environment it's being placed in. If you're watching Sky Sports all day and hooking it up to a PC, having a TV that is highly prone to static images staying on screen such as OLED probably isn't your best bed. But if you're a movie buff, OLED is the best on the market.
