I'm predicting that Decker has become pro-Replicant rights and is part of some kind of underground. Either that, or he uncovered some corporate plot and needed to go into hiding to avoid being assassinated. The first theory might explain his line about it being "simpler" back in his day because probably for most of the time he did the job replicants were much less human but towards the end they became so similar he quit (directly after the events of the first movie).

It really does look and sound strawberry floating amazing. One of the best trailers in quite a while. Haven't seen a David Villeneuve movie I haven't enjoyed yet, hopefully this will continue the trend.

That looks terrible.

I mean it doesn't "look" terrible, that said from what's shown in that trailer it looks like nobody involved has any idea how to make the film look new or interesting aesthetically, which is a real shame considering the ground broken by the original in that arena. But it just looks like a generic, modern, trying to be cleverer than it really is, action heavy sci-fi film.

Still, never judge a book etc. I'm not giving up on it yet.

It looks worrying like a kind of pastiche of the previous film but then I suppose you cannot completely abandon the aesthetic if you are trying to ground it in the same universe.

The release date just happens to be my birthday so might go see it then.

The mise en scene looks really bare. It really doesn't have as good an aesthetic as the original film. I'll probably watch it, but I'm not holding out much hope.

I actually watched the original movie on Saturday. I forgot it was set in 2019.

The bit where he goes into the toymakers apartment and Pris is acting like a doll :dread:

Also her death is incredibly unsettling for me. Just the way she goes nuts on the floor :dread:

You're weird. Not in a "Jared Leto in Bladerunner 2049" way. In a "Jared Leto in Suicide Squad" way.

Weird.

I've been called worse!

To my eyes that was a very uninspiring trailer that suggest we're going to be getting a film which is visually derivative of, and yet in terms of creativity and artistic execution a step down from, the original, and which appears to have little of interest to convey in terms of story and message.

But, as I say it's a trailer and it's early days so I'm not giving up on it. I've just adjusted my status from "interested" to "cautious but still hopeful".

EDIT: sidenote is there anything Jared Leto has done that isn't somewhere on the "weird" spectrum?
