And obviously erosion did the rest. All the 'soft' items were inside, meaning they'd never get wet or get blown away. I see no reason why they shouldn't be fairly well intact.

In that respect, Herkulanium is a better place to visit than Pompeii. Same incident, smaller town.

Awesome, I really admire people that make these trips. I can't believe there are people that would take going to somewhere hideous like New York over the kind of trip you did. Your trip is so much more beautiful, which is ironic when you consider the contents of it.

what part you going to? You should take a trip to Ukraine, see it for yourself! :D

Tho if Russian airports are like Kiev's, the less time spent in them, the better

The airport I've been through twice is "Domodedovo". it's relatively new. And the russians have done what they do best in making it look pretty good from the outside

Image

I've crossed that road about 6 times... and it is NEVER that empty. It's always full of angry, not afraid to run you over, russian madmen in Ladas.

Image

Inside though, it is not built to last. They do a great job on the floors. The floor in international arrivals is PERMANENTLY being cleaned. There is a man paid to drive around in circles on one of those electric floor cleaner things. It is the only floor I've ever seen that I would consider eating off.

Image

Structually though, it's not right. We had a few trained architects in our team. They had commented on Terminal 5 at heathrow and then commented on Domodedovo. Terminal 5 is gonna last a helluva lot longer structually.
There were still guys on the upper levels of Domodedovo going around with welding irons etc.

This time though, I'm going by Sheremetyevo which I haven't seen before.
Google comes up with this:

Image

Looks pretty scummy.

I'm going to an area like I normally do, about 4 hours south of Moscow.

Image

("lol" at the green banner advertising something called "Mister Twister"!!) That is in the main city... it's not too bad there.

Outer places aren't so great - where we stayed last time:

Image

And this is the food we got - this was the best meal. wide range of choice.

That airport looks about a million times nicer than Kiev, kiev airport reminded me of a second rate shopping center up the road from me here in Dublin. My sister was in moscow in 1992 on a school trip, she said the first thing she saw getting out of the lift in the hotel was a woman being raped.

 That almost made me laugh with shock until i realised how awful that is!

Other meals included:

Should of seen the number of insects there were! one night on the trip in 2007, we were upall night with bugs dropping on us from the ceiling. Worst night of my LIFE.
We were more careful with windows this year!

There's been one of those fly things hanging around my room the past few days. It's very strange.
