Amazing, fascinating, terrifying. How long were you allowed to stay in the vicinity for?

Also, did anyone see that programme (on the BBC I think), about what would happen to cities after man has gone? A lot of it was based on Chernobyl.

This, kind of. Well, I can read what the words sound like, don't really know what most of them mean!

For some reason I did Russian at GCSE. I've only been to Moscow though.

first post updated with the rest of the pics! Yeah it was one hell of an experience. By the end i really felt conflicted tho, it was like i felt guilty, for me it was an experience of a lifetime, but for the 20,000 people who lost their homes it wasnt fun, and an estimated 300,000 people in total have been killed of affected by the radiation. I wont forget it for a long time tho. Id advise anyone whos thinking about it to just do it tho. Getting there was such a strawberry floating nightmare, but in the end, it was more than worth the hassle.

Emily, we stayed for about 3 - 4 hours. Apparrently its fine for a day to stay there, but hang around too long and you wont be leaving! The scariest part is when you leave, you have to go through decontamination. Its like a turnstile at a football ground, you stand on it, put your hands on the side, and if youre clean, you get a green light and the little gate opens. If youre not clean....it doesnt open
Mini E if youd like to translate any of this feel free, im curious to know myself :D

I am lost for words. Really impressive pics.

It is strange seeing them as a gamer as you feel that you have been there already, as IW seem to have been quite accurate in their depiction.

The graffiti there in those photos freaked me out completely last night.

It's amazing to think that there's a city somewhere where nobody has lived in for (number of years). One thing I never learnt though, is did all the people in Pripyat die? Or did some of them get a chance to get away?

No, they were all evacuated, and i think most of them survived. They were resettled west of chernobyl. I think it was the unlucky ones on the bridge of death, the plant workers and firemen, who lost ther lives. They were actually allowed to return too, to get soe of their belongings. Every April 26th theres a memorial day, and former residents get to come back to see their old home town.

Still, genuinely amazing photos there. I'm sure it's an experience you'll remember for the rest of your life.

That's made my day. Mutant fish sparring with mutant pigeons battling for sustenance. It's like a microcosm of the epic battle between wildebeest and crocodiles as the former sip from the cool rivers of the African plains while the crocs lie in wait.

It also goes to show that no matter what the folly of man...

Nature finds a way.

Wow, really fantastic pictures man. Thanks for taking them and putting them up here. It's a terrifying thought that people used to just live there like we do here.
