I use the Expressa self-service place round the corner. About a quid per DVD if you return it later that night. It's a PITA if you get cosy, but it's so close to my flat it's daft not to.

And you could, in theory, rent pron anonymously. If you wanted.

But the card doesn't cost you anything so why call them banana splits for it?

Because they forced it upon me, when I wasn't renting, and they take your debit card down in written form, I am paranoid enugh thank you.

Our district currently run a good deal . 2 for £5 for 2 nights , 3 for £7.50 for 3 nights and 4 for £10 for 5 nights. It's quite good considering it's usually £3.95 for 1 night. Our store does pretty well as it's the only rental store for 10 miles , but I could see it having difficulty in the more built up areas where corner shops etc offer rentals too.

Now I rent from Love Film - cost me approx 80 pounds for 1 years unlimited movie rentals - bloody bargain. Plus the ease of popping it into the nearest post box to return it whenever I want.

I know Blockbuster do online rentals too, but their site never appealed to me. When you can rent online so cheaply it's no surprise the physical rental shop will suffer.

£80 would be a rip-off for me with the amount of stuff I rent.

Yeah so that's why Blockbuster are struggling mayne, the peeps who would use Blockbuster a lot are using websites to rent DVDs cause it easier and cheaper. The peeps who don't use websites don't rent often enough to keep business steady mayne. It's a recession, Blockbuster is gonna be gone by the end of the month mayne, there's no point investing money into it cause they won't be able to get it back.

Hey, I'm not having a go, I'm just pointing out my angle on it.

Yeah I know mate. Times are gooseberry fool aren't they.

Tell me about it. I'm currently living in a flat without carpets or curtains, and I can't afford to turn the heating on.

Least you have heating. My flat doesn't. Well apart from some crappy little plug in ones. ¬_¬

Not really surprising. When DVDs can be bought for sub-£5 rather than renting at £3.95 for a week or whatever, and all the online services offering a better deal, it was only a matter of time really. Add people just watching films via torrents or online, why bother renting?

Allow me describe a wonderful little self-service video store in Leeds. It's called Robovideo and you have your own swipecard to gain access to the shop 24/7. It's really nothing more than a small space with a touch-screen monitor where you just select the film you want and it automatically dispenses it. You use a top-up card and money is deducted from this every time you rent something.

The best thing is, it's a quid for six hours, so as long as you're not too lazy to return films on the same day you get them, it's a bargain.

And they save all forms etc for years.

But when they close down they'll have no use for them so will just leave them lying around in the filing cabinet when they vacate the premises for the dodgy strawberry floating agency workers for the firm that clears the place out to find.
