Right, Ive got to block a specific website on an ipad, but I cant figure out how to do it.

You can enable restricted browsing but that just blocks everything on the apple blacklist as far as I can tell, so its no good. I cant do router level blocking as Id usually do because then they would just go external, so OpenDNS etc is a non starter.

Ive blocked it on their Windows machines by simply adding the domain to the hosts file with a 127.0.01 redirect, and it'd be helpful if there was a means to do something similar on an ipad.

Settings > General > Restrictions

Enable it, then set to Limit Adult Content and add the site to the Never Allow list.

It will also block all other "adult content" however there doesn't seem to be an Allow all except this list option. Which is bloody stupid.

I said in my OP that isnt what Im after, Im afraid. I literally want to block access to one site for now.

This isnt my ipad, if it were there would be no shame in retelling my tentacle porn stories. Its literally just someone I work with needed help blocking some site his kid keeps hitting and shouldnt be. Nothing extreme, hence the reason its an easily reversible hosts change on the windows machine.

Boring.

You can edit /etc/hosts if you jailbreak it, is that an option?

Hmm.. perhaps - but as the device is currently apple standard Id like to avoid that.

Its annoying that app store apps dont seem to have the same ability to access the system as android equivalents can.

You could use a separate browser like K9 Browser then block out Safari.

Yeah, but again, thats a block all solution.

The script with this is he literally wants to block one website as a punishment/incentive because his kid is on it all the time. He doesnt want anything else blocked at the moment because as far as I can tell, his kid isnt really into hardcore grot. Maybe he uses the ipad after dark or something, idk.

What the strawberry float?

If he keep breaking the rules, take the iPad away and hide it for a week. What good would he learn if it's just one website blocked? What a weak punishment. It's equal to removing an app just cos it's a favourite of the child, and go "now play with the other apps and THINK ABOUT HOW NAUGHTY YOU ARE!"

Mate I dont give a gooseberry fool about his parenting, I wouldnt give a kid a strawberry floating ipad full stop. Its a strawberry floating kid, why does he need a few hundred quids worth of tablet? Im assuming he uses the strawberry floating thing for homework or something but is browsing cbbc games or some gooseberry fool instead.

He has a problem, asked for a resolution, Ive provided such on his windows machine which is my particular area of expertise, but the ipad is not, hence the question.

I will be sure to pass on your parenting tips though.

Have you considered referring the kid to social services?

The dad probably wouldn't ask you for anything again, which solves the problem from your perspective.

Ive considered killing myself so that nobody ever asks me for a 'quick favour' regarding their computer ever again, though unfortunately after thinking about it, that still leaves the website unblocked

I think we need to think outside of the box here.

Could you DDOS the gooseberry fool out of the website?
