Honestly. Not really. Its more distracting in a fight when a comment happens because sometimes people do watch. I tried to follow the lore early on I really did. But much like DS I just give up to an extent*. I cant be bothered to stop every time I pick something up and find it and read. Then probably have to sift through all the items to find the bit that it connects to as I've forgotten that. A lot of the time I cant even stop to do it then and there as its not safe to. Then I forget where I found things and sometimes thats important. I've got a few sketchy ideas on various things. Probably all wrong. My main issue is I don't tend to find much worthwhile at the end of these seemingly optional areas. Even though its cool to explore them. Hemwick and the witches gave me the tool to use Runes but everything else seems to be chalice stuff. I might not even do those.

*what I'll say in DS favour is I felt like that it still had some clear goals (defeating the lord souls). Here I don't really know why I'm doing this beyond my curiosity to explore. I'll probably find something that links things together at some point. :D

Yeah I found that. Assuming its the place of the fapping creatures and the dick wolves that break chandeliers.

Thats the one thing I do know. :lol: But it seems like an age ago and then there was stuff to do with a new born and Bob and Bloodmoon and a baby keeps crying and farming.

I actually did most of the "story" by exploring every nook and cranny and reading loads of items. (When I read up afterwards I was completely right...in some cases)

I've forgotten most of it - but I loved it at the time.

DS3 is just :wub: Cant decide which i like most, BB or DS3, BB has better combat and I think better bosses, but the settings, NPC's and locales are better in DS3

I'd done DS1 and DS2 as pure Magic, so BB was my first experience of melee.

It taught me a lot of the game/stats I hadn't really appreciated before (parry and reposte! who knew!?!?)

I love magic, so DS2 edges it for me. BB agile/dodge combat with parries was great.

I went into DS3 as magic first time, realised how badly they'd strawberry floated it up and ended up wierd magic/sword hybrid that mostly meleed (Some sword I had scaled INSANELY with Magic). I dodged mostly though (or rolled). Didn't feel the same as BB

This playthrough I'm going Pallydin. So Shield/Sword/Miracles. Shield Parrying timing is ALOT different to a BB gun though :D

My 2nd run through on BB i mastered parrying and it makes the game far less stressful, i cannot parry for the life of me on DS3, but i can roll and move around them to attack them from the back. I don't like the PvP in DS3, i seem woefully underpowered everytime i got invaded even though my character was crazy over levelled. The additional areas and DLC in DS3 are excellent as well.

Right then. Mensis. So far I've not found it that bad. :D The first section with the garden frenzy light is a bit cack. If only because of how long it seems to take the frenzy to stop. Mainly because of how long it continues to build even when hiding. Its a neat enough idea and I do like that it effects the enemies here. Although not in the same way as they dont seem to suddenly loose a lot of health. Just gradually. The worms that come out of the defeated creatures can GTFO out though. :D strawberry floating lock on/swinging gooseberry fool. Just stab the little strawberry floaters you twatting hunter twat. :D I headed to the right and found another lantern very quickly and what was obviously some future shortcuts. On one hand it was cool I found this. On the other it felt strange to have two lanterns so close together. It was almost like they just stuffed the shortcuts in. :D Anyway. I went back the other way over the bridge. Nearly got to the door but got 1 shotted by a boulder throwing twat. Full health. Gone. :D Should probably have just run past them (which I did later) but I wasn't sure if I'd be safe waiting for the door to open. The main problem with going right at the start is I lit the lantern so I started there and it kind of threw my tactics in a spin. I got ganged up on the next go but I might have survived had it not been for the magic extendo claws this gooseberry fool head had. Messy enemy design. I eventually got inside to see a room full of spiders. :D This was awesome. I decided to leave well alone unless they went for me. Which of course they eventually did. They followed me much further then I expected and engaged my run the strawberry float away skill. :D Which I got gud at years ago. Putting a hunter right after a horde of chasing spiders was inspired/dickish in the extreme. I found the shortcut. Then went back dealt with the hunter. I will go back to the spider room and try and take them all on. Hopefully the biggy drops something interesting. :D But for now I pressed on to find some pretty docile chaps walking about. They seemed a bit........ constructed. Not mechanical as such but also not alive as such. Every now and then one would attack me. Anyway. I dealt with them and the big ones that I assume maybe control them. Took a couple of goes thanks to sniper banana splits. :D Got outside to find hound/crow crow/hound things. Clearly some gooseberry fool have been going down here. :D Something oddly funny about the crow headed hounds. I eventually found Microsoft, the host of the nightmare. :D

This fight was............ odd. I beat him first time. :D It took ages as I went around and around. I got fed up with his repeated dialogue. Seriously shut the strawberry float up. This didn't help as everytime I wanted to pick up an item I had to skip each bit which was irritating. Bloke just seemed to have a novel to get though. :D I kind of got lost. It seems like there were two areas with an almost "normal" section in between. Which confused me. Anyways. I found him and got in his face and he died. Dunno what to make of it really. I mean it was different but.... it was also quite boring and tedious and had I died I cant imagine it would be much fun. Anyway. He "woke up" when he died so I guess he is the corpse in the chair (after Bob) and I was in his dream. Or the same dreamland. I stopped here. :D

Well. I'm back......

I just beat Merlin, the wet dream nurse. First time. :D I dunno if thats like an awesome achievement or not but I did it. Anyway. I started by going back to the spiders. Got rid of all the little ones but the biggy. Well we had an stand off at the door. This lasted some time as the spider did big attacks through the walls. What fighting there was, well, it was messy. Then back to the entrance stand off. I killed it. It dropped absolutely strawberry floating nothing. :D Then I carried on up the building. I heard one of the singing banana splits. :D It was somewhere else for now. I found a "shortcut". Then I found the Shadows of Yawnham again. Yay. Reusing bosses! :D It was totally ace when Dark Souls did this as well. :D Then I fisted a boar over and over. And then a pair of boars murderfied me over and over. 1 hit killing me over and over. They hit me so hard at one point I went inside one! :D I realised the "shortcut" I found wasn't actually a shortcut. It made me question why this was designed like this. Eventually I ran past the boars because they were banana splits. :D I found more shadows of yawnham. Killed them. Then found a lady ghost with a lovely fashion conscious dress with a blood stain design. :D Fabulous! :D Then another shortcut. Then I went into the obvious boss room. The buggy sitting in the middle, lit by the full moon. Merlin appeared. Well, I say appeared, was partly invisible I'd say. The fight that happened, I thought was awesome. The only downside being the teleporting clones. I could see this bit being a massive dick. Fortunately it seemed to be mainly lots of weak attacks at this stage so it wasn't as punishing as it could be. I got right behind Merlin at a few points and did a full charge attack which didn't stun. Would have been cool to be able to do that. Dunno why I couldn't. The fog was a nice way to mix things up. Popped back to check on ghost lady and she vanished. Then I went back to the hunters dream. Looks like sexbot should make a phone call to someone.

Basically all you need to know about the story is that people don't know what dey messin' wit.

Scholars found the ancient Pthumerian civilisation (the chalice dungeons) and old Queen Yharnam. Therein they discovered the blood, which was found to have healing properties and the new city of Yharnam flourished. The scholars kept digging around and found the Pthumerians were into some raw gooseberry fool and things started getting Lovecraftian. It was around here that the side effect of the blood kicked in and people started becoming beasts. The scholars split into the church, which included the hunters, which continued to push the blood and dealing with the side effects through the nightly hunt. The scholars stayed and started learning about the celestial kin which the blood is believed to have come from.

Then there's the whole thing about the Kin trying to be reborn in our plane which is what the umbilical cords and Mergo is about. Basically think the Dunwich Horror.

Something something eyes on the inside, something something Kos, something something fear the old blood.


Not going to pretend I've gotten that entirely correct since it's been a while but it should be enough to piece it together.

You missed out a bit about Mensis/Hidden Village I think

Mensis was a different faction wasn't it? They were focused on reaching the Cosmos via Dreams. They were kidnapping/experimenting on Choir members (you find the key to the upper ward on a tortured member in the village) and trying to manufacture a great one. "Bob", by reanimation.

When they reached the great ones their minds were blown - hence all the corpses Death.

Sky turned red, Amy's appeared all over. Mensis ritual strawberry floated the world up.

Rom hid the damage from the world - when you kill him, the veil is lifted.

It's basically all the different factions trying to contact, or contacing, Great Ones via different methods (and different Great Ones having different effects).

Mergo was born from Queen Yamaha wasn't it? That's the woman TWA keeps calling bloodied? (But hasn't realise they cut the baby out of her before it could be stillborn IIRC)


Balls I'm going to spend ages wanting to replay this - or read the lore now

Have I reached end game now or am I close? It feels like I'm getting close but I've not found this part of Mensis that you hate yet. Unless I bossed that bit without knowing. Dunno if I've done the DLC or not as I've don't know how it fits in. Stupid cryptic bollocks.

You seem to have been to most areas (including some of the optional ones) - but not sure you've exp[ored everywhere.

You've not, in your ramblings, indicated you've been to the DLC.

How to acess

Defeat Vicar Amelia and activate the skull in the Cathedral to turn day into night.
Go to the Hunter’s Dream and receive Eye of a Blood-Drunk Hunter from a messenger.
Go to the Cathedral Ward and leave via the left-hand exit to enter the square.
Go to the right-hand end of the square (where the Hunter Set/Top Hat are located) and the Lesser Amygdala will grab you. This will take you to the new area: The Hunter’s Nightmare

I recall that Ad7 mended the world with his play-through of Demon’s Souls and it feels like TWA has achieved a similar feat with this Bloodborne adventure. Maybe the world will be fixed again? :toot: .

Cheers. I only ask because I remember the strawberry floating mess it was to access the DLC areas of DS. I'm working on the assumption this will just start a new game like that did as well. So glad I had Dragon to make sure I got those done before I finished it. :D

I received that item in the hunters dream. I wondered what it did.
