Jawa's ongoing Bloodborne saga has now had me impulse purchasing the Old Hunters DLC even though I have zero idea when I'd even play the game apart from looking at the character creation menu and turning it off. Your fault Jawa :x

To be fair that's the default Jawa patented gaming method.

You go Jawa, you can beat the cleric beast!

A world of pain :( . That boss health bar is just ridiculously big. Oh, well, at least I got there :) . I'll take a break and then I'll fight another day.

Stick with it Jawa, you never forget your first boss victory! Not sure about Bloodborne but the first boss in all three Dark Souls games are pitched perfectly difficulty-wise. They're a challenge to newcomers but have attack patterns which are straightforward to learn, and you always feel like you're learning each attempt. Good luck man, I really hope you get through it. :-)

Parksey wrote:The thing I found with the CB, and other "Beast" bosses, is that you intuitively try and dodge backwards or to the side. Because they are quite big, they usually have decent reach and you still get thwacked when you come out of the dodge.

You have to learn to dodge forward, into the attacks. This often puts you right underneath them and, more often that not, you can beat the beast bosses by wailing on their legs from behind.

This is the best advice for the big bosses. Dodging gives a few frames of invulnerablily, so you can dodge forward and through boss attacks to get near enough to cause some damage. Intuitively you try and get out of the the way of attacks but that can leave you too far away to do any damage, because of the invulnerablily when dodging you can actually stay a lot closer than you might think.

Ta for sharing the vid, Ad - will watch later!

Yeah, I think I've been going the longer way round, Parksey; gotta check this out.

 . It's nice to hear that other Hunters are rising, Kj!

Ad7 wrote:...You go Jawa, you can beat the cleric beast!

You know, I'm wondering about re-tackling a few beasts (maybe the werewolves) and taking the collected echoes back to the 'Dream for levelling up. Maybe I'll then be a bit tougher for facing up to the Cleric Beast.

Cheers, mhtl! I feel the moment is coming when I can join the pantheon of GRcade Hunters :toot: .

Definitely, sawyer'. I shall look through Parksey's advice before I face up to the boss :) .

Managed to get the platinum trophy for this yesterday. I'm never touching the chalice dungeons again, the defiled one in particular took the piss.

Yeah, I think that was the most infuriating one of the lot. It was a long, drawn out fight of mostly just waiting until he does his coughing up lava attack as it's the only opportunity you have to get some free hits in. That, and praying he didn't do his one-shot stampede and pounce moves.

The boss in the layer after that isn't much easier.

I will never utter those words.

I think I've unlocked just a single trophy. Possibly not even that!

That genuinely gave me the fear when i saw that. I did not even realize at first that the post was aimed at me, its just so uncanny it made sense immediately. Ergh.

Bloodborne is still on my playlist but I haven't had a chance to return to it so far this week :-) . I feel confident that the cleric beast hasn't moved anywhere in my absence, though.

The Cleric beast is probably a little tougher than most Dark Soul's openers, it's a little further into the game.

Still not massively difficult though.

The camera during the fight is as much of a boss as the boss himself.

Made it through the
Forbidden Woods
today. That was all sorts of terrifying. I found the
Shadows of Yarnham
perfectly manageable however, taking them down second time without any NPC assistance. Compared to the stock enemies in the area they were something of a pushover. Which as a relief as I couldn't find anyway to quickly access a shortcut that I had unlocked near that fight. My sense of direction really sucks....

If you're doing Forbidden Woods, make sure you check out the poison swamp area. There's some good loot and a passageway leading back to Iosefka's clinic which leads onto some nice lore stuff (and eventually an important item).
