Old Yharnam and Hypogeon Gaol are side areas so if you're getting beat on too much there's nothing stopping you from trying again a bit later.

If you're looking for the paths available to you now:

You want to explore around Cathedral Ward. There are two ways in: one is to go through the gate by the giant using the emblem you buy, the second is to go back to the lamp and through a door that opens post BSB. Then just explore everywhere there.

Other than that I think Gaol is your only choice but that can be a bit tough right now.

Thanks Met, will explore a bit around there! That other area is a bit too tough at the moment and the constant dying is a bit unappealing!

I left it until much later in the game and even then it was tough. After OY i just explored around the cathedral area and eventually moved on to Hemwick if i remember right

Just make sure it's done before The Wondrous Rom is bested.

I think i did it after Rom...

Me too. I think it's worth doing* before what with the jail section changing after what happens happens.

*or at the very least worth a good wander through.

It's the defiled dungeon after that's more of a pain, half health and everything hits harder. Some tricky bosses like the watchdog of the old lords, and Amygdala. They pretty much one shot you so you need a lot of vials and perfect runs.

Last spell? Im guessing you mean the messengers gift? It's quite well hidden at the back of a poison swamp- and behind one of those frenzy giving mother brains- my tip is don't rush there, you get to the end, get mobbed- and then get frenzied to death when you're stood by the item >.<

Make sure you get an extra 2 red jelly from the lecture hall too- or you'll need to go through the Isz chalice to get them.

Did you get the arcane haze extractor from the Lower pthlumeru an dungeon too? Makes collecting haze easier as you can recycle old materials.

I found the Geol area thrilling when I first went there as it was so clearly insta death for me at that point. Creeping around in the darkness knowing one hit was game over :dread: :datass:
Went back a little later and managed to clear it all out in one go, which was nail biting and amazing.

Nope. I'll go and find it. I think I have my Old Bloodborne save on a memory stick so might be able to get the Messenger's Gift without having to beast NG+++.

Shouldn't need too, you only need to get to before the forbidden woods to trigger it, shouldn't take an hour max to beat gazza and Amelia to get to that point.

I solo'd a couple of bosses last night on the first attempt.

Then after I made the video I took down The One Reborn on the second try (failed the first one due to not expecting his acid attack).

So I've only got two areas left before I actually finish my first ever "Souls" game. I already feel like I've done it because I think I'm overlevelled.

gtfo.

You never playfinished Dark Souls?!
I dunno why I expected it of you but... I just did.

I also felt a bit overlevlled toward the end, but it could also have been down to the fact I did some zones before I should have and so when I got to Frontier etc it felt like a stroll.

Got the emblem and worked my way through and unlocked another shortcut. Can't wait to get back to this later on! That satisfaction of beating an onslaught of various enemies by strafing and dodging around them with the odd well timed swipe and use of the molotov cocktail is gaming bliss!

I urge all ps4 gamers to give this a try, but also time to learn how to play the game, because once you 'get it', you 'git gud'.

I got *most* of the way through Demon's Souls and lost my save due to YLOD.

Then I got a little way through Dark Souls on PS3 and somehow lost the disc (a mystery I still have trouble believing)

Then I started Dark Souls on PC when DS2 came out and got up to the Painted World before my play through fell by the wayside, so I never bought the sequel.

Do you think you'll go back to Dark Souls now? I want to start it again, but will wait and see if From/Namco Bandai announce a console remake before I do.

I can't imagine the DO NOT WANT of losing a souls save :dread:

Oh and they DONT NEED A REMAKE FFS, they're still brilliant on both console and PC.

I'll definitely go back to it soon, but I don't know whether to start from the beginning or just continue where I left off.

Celestial Emissary down. If you could even call that a boss fight.

I almost beat the following boss immediately, but she pulled out that beam attack at 10% health and ended me. The following attempts went less well, but only because she pulled that attack out earlier. Even a co-op effort that was laughably easy was just killed dead in its tracks by that strawberry floating attack.

Got to be a start from the beginning to get the full effect. You'll get to where you left off in no time.

:o

I didn't say it needed a remake. Just going to wait it out this year to see if it gets one.

My first experience of online help for a boss fight - vicar amelia. Very satisfying!
