So just managed to beat the Blood-Starved Beast. I did it on my third attempt.

Now, admittedly, I might be over-leveled. I struggled with Father G and grinded a bit and because I put the game down for a year upon reaching the cathedral ward, I spent a bit of time going over old areas and getting used to the combat again. I ended up being level 40 when I faced him.

Did most people summon Alfred for the fight? I did that, and the BSB just couldn't cope with the two of us. But now I feel guilty and like I've cheated myself out of a good fight.

Combined with the Poison resistant armour I had, antidotes and the blood cocktails, I did it fairly easily. Both my deaths were when I go too close and he poisoned me so fast I didn't have time to press triangle to heal before I succumbed.

I summed Batman for mine. It's all part of the game. Get that Pedz-esque thinking out of your mind and do whatever you need to in order to get through it.

This wasn't a human summon though. I went over to a red light in the ground and summoned Alfred, the guy who I had met earlier in the cathedral.

Jut got killed by a weird bagman and woken up somewhere completely different. strawberry float knows where the next lantern is and these guys, whilst slow, take off 3/4 of my health in one go. If I get hit with a combo I'm gone

There's a lantern not far from where you wake up to allow you to return to the Cathedral Ward. I then went back to that jail area once I was levelled up a bit more.

Yeah, annoyingly it was literally just above my head but I would either die or go exploring in the other direction.

The area outside that part just seems massive.

It's not as big as it first appears. Just so you're aware that lantern stops working after a certain part of the game so you can't go back there for a bit, although you go there via other means as a mandatory area so you won't miss out if you pass that point of the game without exploring it first.

They do that. The only advice I can really offer is to always assume you're about to get hit from off screen so chuck a random dodge away while you're attacking one of them. Also don't get greedy as they'll all home in on you if you're in one place.

Yeah I think the fact that I can inflict quite a bit of damage led to me being greedy. Look forward to trying again over the weekend.

Parksey, as I'm only a little bit further than you would you be up for soccer co-op?

Soccer co-op?

Yeah I'd be up for co-op, though obviously at the moment I'm 8 hours ahead of the UK so a lot of my weekday gaming time is during UK working hours.

Anyway just beat the fourth boss:

Vicar Amelia.

She was by far the easiest so far, and I beat her first time. Again, there's a chance I was over-leveled as I am level 45 now, but I also didn't get hit much and only used a few blood vials (and some of them were with not much health lost, as I could tell I was going to have a good chance of beating her first time so I was ultra safe).

I thought some here struggled with her? Father Gascoigne is still the biggest difficulty spike so far
.

The world is opening up a lot too, and I was flummoxed by the number of different paths open to me, and the way the areas interlink.

Loving it at the moment, and I spend my free periods at work reading about the game too, instead of studying which I really should be doing.

Hopefully I can get the game finished before I go to Canada in two weeks, as usually when I put a game down I don't go back to it for a while. This is what happened to Bloodborne itself back in April 2015, though no fault of its own.

*some

I work shifts so that could work out nicely when I'm off in the week.

I'm guessing I must have been really lucky but I beat Father Gascoigne on my second attempt but the Cleric Beast took me ages (this might have been because I didn't realise I could farm blood vials). I've never known a game that has such variable difficulty for players.

Currently I have just beaten the WOH ( Witches of Hemlick)

It seems like the bosses are getting a little easier, as I haven't had any trouble since Father Gascoigne.

I have heard the next area ramps up the difficulty a bit. I remember some people here saying they had trouble with at the time.

When you wake up after the bagman if you can make it to the main street area outside it's much easier to gather all the items as the area is clear of enemies whereas later on when you return during the main story there are some tough enemies hanging around.

I still haven't played the DLC for either this or DS2. I'll have get it done at some point.

Ooh. I had no idea! I was so terrified of that place, that exiting the whole zone was my primary concern and not exploring and going outside. (Who knows what may have been waiting for me!!) But I will definitely make use of that tip if I ever replay the game. Which I probably will because I've yet to play the DLC.

Ta for the tip!

Actually I'm wrong, it's not completely clear of enemies there's still a bag guy and a couple of dogs but it's still better that later on when there are a tonne of fuck-knows-whats kicking about.

The WOH is definitely the easiest boss in the game. Is the next area the Forbidden Woods? It can be easy to get lost there and the boss can be quite tough, although fairly manageable once you come up with a decent strategy.

Father Gascoigne is probably one of the toughest bosses in the game really, as you are still getting used to the mechanics and it's the first hunter fight. I'm not sure if I was overlevelled but there was only one other boss who gave me a lot of trouble after that, most of the others could be completed in a few tries at most. Although I can't say the same for the DLC, I think it was a mistake attempting it on NG+, I can't get past Ludwig.

Yeah it seems to be the Forbidden Forest next. I discovered an area I had forgotten about in Cathedral
Ward with two hunters (one with that electric mace thing) and then got mullered by an invisible hand.

When should I do the chalice dungeons? I got something from beating the BSB and was thinking of attempting that dungeon sometime when I feel like just playing the game rather than progressing with the "story". As the mechanics and combat are great fun by themselves.

I only played the first two chalice dungeons after completing the game and I was way too overlevelled so they weren't very enjoyable, playing them as you go through the game when you fancy something a bit different sounds like a good way to do it. I think the later dungeons have the hardest bosses in the game but I never got around to trying those.

I'm back into this and still can't get past the Blood Starved Beast. Died like 5 times trying to kill him. Bah.

I love the exploring and combat in this game but hate the boss fights.

I know what you mean. I find it really weird watching A Man Who Hates Bloodborne Play Bloodborne because he makes the normal game look so difficult but beats the bosses relatively easily. I've watched a few videos if people beating bosses on their first attempt effortlessly and have no idea how they do it.

The Forbidden Woods are such a pain. A massive, gloomy maze, and the poison spewing enemies take off a lot of my health and leave me poisoned. Managed to clear out a lot of the area and was getting the lay of the land just running around, and then died and now have to do it all again.

Managed to retrieve my Echoes and leveled up my Endurance a few times.

Doesn't seem like there's a lantern anywhere close, so I guess I need to find the boss and figure out the optimal route to it.

The woods, like most if Bloodborne, is all shortcut porn. There should be a shortcut back to the start about half way in a windmill and at the bottom by a swampy, marshy looking place. When you hit that you know you're reaching the end.
