PostBloodstained Cancelled on Wii U

Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night the spiritual successor to Castlevania which has been Kickstarted has been cancelled on Wii U and is instead being ported to the Switch. Now, I know jawa will have a fit, but what about the others interested in it? any backers?

Thank you for always supporting us. I would like to give a message to the backers who pledged for the Wii U version of Bloodstained.

During our Kickstarter campaign, the Wii U was at the height of its popularity, but the situation has drastically changed after the release of Nintendo Switch.

This change made it difficult to receive the necessary support from the hardware maker, which has led us to drop the Wii U development and shift the development to Nintendo Switch.

We are very sorry that it has come to this after all your support, but we hope you will understand. We would like to respond by preparing options for our backers, such as moving your pledge to another version or requesting a refund if you don’t want any other version.

We hope you will continue to support us.

How this will work for Kickstarter and slacker backers: The Switch version is now available as an option in the backer survey for anyone who has a physical or digital version of Bloodstained coming, replacing the Wii U version. (Just use the same link you were sent to fill out your survey initially; if you have any problems with your survey, or don’t have your link any more, we can help: e-mail orders@fangamer.com.)

If you selected the Wii U version in your backer survey and you want the Switch version, you’re all set! The Switch version has replaced the Wii U version in the survey, so no further action is necessary on your part.

If you selected the Wii U version and you want to move to a PC, PS4, Xbox One, or Vita version, you can go to your backer survey and make the change now. (Click the "Change Your Survey Answers" link.)

If you selected the Wii U version and don't want any of the Switch, PC, PS4, Xbox One, or Vita versions, you're eligible for a cancellation and refund if you meet all the following criteria:

You filled out your backer survey and selected the Wii U version prior to this update.
You backed at an unlimited tier ($28 to $500)
You are able to receive a refund via PayPal
You submit your refund request before the April 20, 2017 deadline.
If you're eligible for a refund and backed at a tier that included two copies of the game, including the Wii U version, we can also help you adjust your tier to its single-copy equivalent. Refund requests will be processed via PayPal at a later date.

All requests should be e-mailed to orders@fangamer.com with the subject “Bloodstained Wii U refund.” (Please include the e-mail address associated with your PayPal account.)

I'm very interested in it and I'll be getting it on the Switch day one. The Igavania games are some of my favourites and it'll be nice to have the familiar feeling with Bloodstained after giving up on getting a decent new Castlevania.

I feel for the WiiU owners who have backed games on kickstarter, especially after also losing out on Yooka-Laylee.

Makes zero sense to release anything on a deader than dead console. Correct decision, just like the Yooka-Laylee one. Lord knows how the Vita version is still set for release.

I hadn't backed this project but it is disappointing to see the cancellation of another (fully funded, two years ago) title for the Wii U. I can understand that it's just business but, as with Yooka-Laylee, it feels disingenuous to lay the blame at the declining U market. I'd disagree with the developer's view that the U "was at the height of its popularity" in 2015 and I'm more inclined to believe that this is - again - Nintendo stepping in to move a project onto the Switch.

Which makes me a little frustrated with Nintendo. Ho-hum. Anyway... the game looks like it's gonna be pretty cool.

Any company that had a kickstarter in the last 2-3 years that was claiming they'd do a Wii U version were idiots. Waste of time.

Agreed, as soon as Nintendo muttered 'NX' everything should have be really marked as being on the future Nintendo platform.

As much as I loved my Wii U, I'm glad everything is being moved to Switch. It's the better console in terms of how it looks/feels imo.
