Bombshell - Boris didn't want to scrap the Western extension, instead he wanted to re-work it, but became hamstrung by a promise he made in the election campaign.

He claims that TfL is exagerating the £70 million figure, but there is going to be a major dent in its finances - which will probably hinder public transport initiatives.

The BBC suggested that the consultation was a dangerous thing - it intended to favour the people who shout loudest. TfL's measure (a smaller sample - 2,000 - 41% voted to scrap it, 45% voted to keep it) is possibly more accurate.

He's also (unsurprisingly) getting a kicking from the Greens, who claim that his environmental policies are "little more than a charade" and Asthma UK who view the decision as "shortsighted".

Only the London Chamber of Commerce is happy, and they want the Westminster C-Zone to be scrapped as well.

What a balls up. :fp:

I personally feel that taxi's should either be gotten rid of or at least have their numbers severely thinned down. There are hundreds of the strawberry floating things and they always slow down the buses with their arrogant drivers weaving in and out of whatever tiny space they can.

So get rid of taxi's, make the rich twats get public transport like the rest of us. Result, more money and space for the buses! ;)

The congestion charge did very little for reducing traffic into Central London, it was merely just a cash revenue for Red Ken and his commie chums.
