Wasn't the character of Kincaid in Skyfall originally written for Sean Connery, to heavily suggest that was, in fact, the case?

How would that even work?

It's clearly meant to be Daniel Craig's ancestral home, complete with dead-parents-graveyard just down the road. To then have Sean bloody Connery be not only his gamekeeper/guardian as a child, but also as an old Bond (complete with dead parents and Scottish heritage) baffles my mind.

I would imagine on the extremely slim chance that Connery had agreed to do the role, it would more be as a sly cameo for the anniversary than as the same agent who was in Doctor No, Goldfinger etc. It would have probably been the same character Albert Finney played - the surly Scottish guardian of the young James Bond - but the irony would have been that is kind of Connery's role within the franchise.

I don't get why the "Bond as a code name" theory prevails. You aren't supposed to tie each and every film in the series together into a linear plot. Just like every representation of a literary character doesn't have to tie in with one another. You're all melters if you want Bond to just be a code name. It doesn't need it.

We know from Goldeneye that Pierce Brosnan Bond was taken in by MI6 when he was orphaned young. MI6 habitually collects orphans and gives them to agents to train who pretend to be their parents. The graves in Skyfall are the agents who "adopted" Daniel Craig.

Indeed but he doesn't want to act any more.

Nope, QoS was PERFECT as a set up for something, which was then ENTIRELY dropped for Skyfall.

I think it was rumoured that the Quantum storyline would be picked up again for Bonds 24 and 25, then there would be a new Bond (Fassbender or Elba plz)

Has anyone considered that it is a codename but it just happened to also be his real name?

I have always said that when I become a Hollywood director I would have a new Bond set in the 1950s during the Cold War, and cast Fassbender or Tom Hiddleston in the role. I get Bond with the hair flicked in his forehead and a scar down his cheek - as Ian Fleming described him.

On a related note, Bond is back on ITV, after reclaiming the rights from Sky.

I'd like to see a return of gadgets. I can't see them topping Casino Royale (still Craig's best - Skyfall was overrated imo).

There's one line (despite sounding cool) that's always bothered me about Casino Royale - it's when M says something like 'God I miss the Cold War'. Considering Casino Royale is supposed to be set during Bond's first (or at least one of his very first) missions, that means every Bond film ever made have all taken place since the 1990s! It doesn't make sense especially as we see Bond taking on the Soviets at the start of Goldeneye. I guess it supports the multi-Bond theory.

I realise the film makers probably don't give a toss about consistency between each of the movies, but it's still fun to speculate.

I'm not a fan of the code-name theory. It just seems that people need to create some link or reason between all of the movies. Why can't they just be stand-alone stories about an agent? That's what they are. Not everything has to have some overarching plot.

You should read the theory linking all the Pixar movies to the same universe. It's staggering that someone would put time and effort into something like that

Yeah I've seen that. It was actually quite clever, if completely ridiculous.

There's a similar theory for Tarantino films isn't there? Where because of the events in the Second World War, as per Inglorious Basterds, everyone is completely desensitised to violence and all the other films like Pulp Fiction/Reservoir Dogs are in that world or a films made by people in that world (Django Unchained).

Just read it here: http://mashable.com/2013/07/12/the-pixar-theory/

Absolutely crazy. I bet the folk at Pixar love it, assuming they've seen it.
