Chiwetel Ejiofor Being Eyed to Play Villain in Next Bond Film

Fresh off an Oscar nomination for “12 Years a Slave,” Chiwetel Ejiofor is the frontrunner to play the villain opposite Daniel Craig in the next James Bond movie, multiple individuals familiar with the project have told TheWrap.

Sony, MGM and Ejiofor's reps at CAA all declined comment.

Sam Mendes is directing the as-yet-untitled “Bond 24,” which was written by “Skyfall” scribe John Logan.

While Ejiofor does not have an official offer yet and is not in formal talks, he is being eyed for the coveted role and is widely presumed to be the frontrunner amongst the other actors under consideration.

Barbara Broccoli and Michael Wilson are producing the movie, which is expected to be in production from November through April 2015.

The filmmakers will soon begin casting two key female roles, including a new Bond girl and a Scandinavian with a troubled past who will serve as a brief love interest for Bond.

First Set Photo

Not the most revealing, but...

As MI6 reported last month, some scenes for Bond 24 will be filmed on location in Austria, near the border with Italy.

Local newspaper Kleine Zeitung got the first glimpse at the preparation work already underway in the South West of the country. The tiny municipality of Obertilliach in Tyrol - population 693 - will see 007 in action in January or February next year.

According to reports, a small team of 10-12 crew members are constructing a temporary building on the outskirts of Obertilliach that will either be blown up or see a plane crash in to it during the film.

Around 3 days of filming on Bond 24 is expected to take place in the nearby tiny picturesque mountain town which sits at an elevation of almost 5,000 feet.

Next Great BOND Henchman To Be GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY's Dave Bautista
Latino-Review's scooper supreme, El Mayimbe, is reporting that director Sam Mendes has chosen Guardians of the Galaxy star Dave Bautista to be a henchman in the next James Bond film.

Over the decades, the James Bond franchise has produced some iconic henchmen: 'Nick Nack' (Hervé Villechaize) from The Man with the Golden Gun (1974), 'Jaws' (Richard Kiel) from The Spy Who Loved Me and Moonraker, as well as 'Oddjob' (Harold Sakata) from Goldfinger. Director Sam Mendes ("Skyfall") is looking to create his own iconic henchman for Bond 24. According to Latino-Review's El Mayimbe, that henchman will be played by former WWE wrestler Dave Bautista. You know him as 'Drax' from Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy. This will be the same role that were learned about in August when a casting call leaked for a character named, 'Hinx.'

Hinx (Male, 30 – 45) - Ideally over 6′ 2″. Hinx is the main henchman/assassin. We are looking for an imposing extremely physically fit actor. He has several fights with Bond and will have to have stunt training. He has to drive. We are looking for someone very unusual, possibly from a sports background.

Christoph Waltz Linked To Bond 24

With filming set to kick off next month, we’re reaching the stage when the floodgates open regarding information about the next Bond film, which in this case is still known as Bond 24. While no official announcements have yet to be made, Baz Bamigboye is reporting that Christoph Waltz has signed for the film.

We’re likely going to have to wait for the Sony and Eon teams to make an announcement before anything is confirmed, but Bamigboye has a firm track record on this front. He’s already pointed to Léa Seydoux as a potential femme fatale, while Latino Review – no slouches in scoopage, but not so tested on the James Bond front – have heard that Guardians Of The Galaxy’s Dave Bautista is up for a henchman role.

And Waltz’s reported casting means he may well have a boss. Dare we speculate that the man who has brought iconic (and Oscar-winning) villains to life in the past could be the next Blofeld? With the Bond team seemingly looking to reconstruct the classic formula around Daniel Craig’s Bond, with – spoiler alert for the three people who haven’t seen Skyfall – Ralph Fiennes taking over as M, Ben Whishaw as a fresh-faced Q, Naomie Harris as Moneypenny, the crucial trio is once more in place, with Rory Kinnear back as the redoubtable Tanner. There have also been rumours that Blofeld could return to the series, and Waltz could certainly offer up a fresh interpretation.

There was word that the Bond villain this time round will be Chiwetel Ejiofor a while back. I'd be very happy if this were the case.

Highly doubtful sadly, he's off shooting The Martian now.

Would make a tremendous villain though.

Daniel Craig as James Bond
Ralph Fiennes as M
Ben Whishaw as Q
Naomie Harris as Moneypenny
Andrew Scott as Denby
Dave Bautista as Mr. Hinx
Monica Bellucci as Lucia Sciarra
Lea Seydoux as Madeline Swan
Christoph Waltz as [Mendes didn't say] (I suspect he will be Ernest Starvo Blofeld)

Also, it's a nice touch to put an Octopus logo behind the title name. :D
