Blofeld And SPECTRE Could Be Back For Bond

Kevin McClory worked with Bond creator Ian Fleming and another writer, Jack Whittingham, during the late 1950s, and the result was the novel (and then the 1965 film) Thunderball. But alongside the underwater adventures of Sean Connery, another result was a seemingly never-ending legal battle between McClory's estate and the rights owners of the Bond franchise, MGM / Danjaq / EON, which has finally been resolved.

The simple solution was that McClory's estate has sold off any remaining rights to the Thunderball story - which was also remade in 1983 in the non-canon Never Say Never Again - allowing both Blofeld and SPECTRE back into the Bond fold.

Die-hard 007 aficionados, aware of how Moneypenny and M are set up thanks to the end of Skyfall, will be very excited to imagine how Sam Mendes and his Bond 24/25 writer John Logan might - with the emphasis on might - bring everyone's favourite cat-stroking evil genius into the new Daniel Craig era.

It's a long shot, of course, as this sort of campness has been ignored by the Broccolis recently (aside from that commuter's quip in the tube station, midway through Skyfall) but if Moneypenny worked, Blofeld might too. The trouble will be between Lex Luthor and that Ernst Stavro fellow, should both bald bad guys appear in the cinematic traffic jam that is 2015.

For those keeping score, The Biggest Year For Films In All The History Of Ever now features Star Wars: Episode VII, Avengers 2, Terminator 5 (in theory), The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 2, and Superman Vs. Batman. Not to mention other potentially huge animated films, non-sequels and the rest of the slate. The UK release for Bond 24 is currently earmarked for October 23, 2015, while it has a US release scheduled for November 6.

As a reminder of when we last saw 'Blofeld' - in For Your Eyes Only back in 1981 - here's a dummy in a wheelchair being thrown down an industrial chimney.

Didn't Daniel Craig already hint that crazy gadgets is the direction the next film will go?

Almost choked on my tea then. :x

Anyway, jokes aside, how about both? I could see it working either as James Bond's dad * (worked well with former Bond Sean Connery playing Indianna Jones dad) or a James Bond set 30 years in the future with flash backs to his younger years ** (with Moore playing the older Bond, just in case there was any confusion).

* Taking the piss
** Still taking the piss

Because (SKYFALL SPOILERS ANUNG) we know his dad is dead.

It's a shame the "James Bond" name isn't just a codename or else current Bond could meet one of the previous holders of the name. Connery and Craig fighting Blofeld could have been awesome.

You confused "shame" with "good thing" and "awesome" with "facepalmingly cringe worthy".

I may have confused "sarcasm" with "legit post"

I was only half messing around. Such a movie would almost certainly be awful, but there is a slim chance that it could be amazing.

So...Blofeld and gadgets...are they moving back towards the tone of the standard Bond films then?

I really wanted them to go back to the tone of Casino Royale where they tried to move away as much as possible from that. I found the references and nods very jarring in Skyfall.

Am I the only one that wants moar gadgets/traditional Bond?

Casino Royale was good and everything, but I have modern action movies for that stuff. I don't want Bourne, I want Bond.

Nothing wrong with Skyfall, and in fact I think they got the tone just about right.

I want my Bond to be Bond. So a modernisation of the Blofeld/Spectre stuff would be wicked!

Am I the only one that actually wants a continuation of the Quantum storyline? Actually finding out what the hell is going on? Maybe it could tie in to Spectre quite well. Mr. White being the modern day Blofeld?

Wasn't the character of Kincaid in Skyfall originally written for Sean Connery, to heavily suggest that was, in fact, the case?
