So I've upgraded to a cobra mark 3, loaded up cargo pods and installed better FSD. Taken on a sightseeing tour for a rich guy. Having to travel longer distances than I've ever done! 152LY to first location. It will be worth it for the £700k reward. Definitely finding my groove but still having to FAQ basic control and interface issues which is a real shame.

Tempted by this, next time it's on sale on PS4 then I might dice in. Any reason to go for the commander pack (or whatever it's called)?

It gives you the ability to land on planets, your first ship (and I think all subsequent ships) comes with a rover surface vehicle, you start with an easy mission preloaded that gives you 10,000 credits and I think you get some livery for your ship.

Here's my starter ship:

Ok so I ran out of fuel in a system with no stations and I don't have a fuel scoop. Buggered up completely. Had to self destruct. Killed my passenger and failed that £700k mission I was 3/4 towards completion. I wish they included some distress beacon option that sends you to nearest station at cost instead of leaving you stuck. I had to google what to do and they said self destruct as only option.

Anyway I took a huge hit but I'm clawing it back with delivery missions and trade. Still not got into a single fight, maybe upgrade my weapons and give bounty hunting a go!

Know that feeling. That's why the first thing I do is put a fuel scoop on.

Online there is (or used to be) something called the fuel rats which was a group of real people who would respond to a forum posted distress signal, then fly to you and refuel you. Like a space RAC.

You guys make this game sound so strawberry floating good.

I'm tempted to drop pound notes on it.. but I'm not sure if I'll have the same fun experience that you guys do

My experience is really boring and frustrating

Saying that, starting a fresh game on horizons has been much better from the outset.

You won't.

At least not initially. Look back on my posts they go from optimistic excited to frustration to anger to hatred back to perseverence and then finally it begins to click and you start to make progress and because of all the massive hurdles in the way you feel that you truly earned it! And that sense of achievement is superb!

And then you become overwhelmed! I still don't know a lot of what the game can do. I haven't mined, or gone out pirating, I haven't really explored much. I've played it safe and done a few delivery missions, stuck to local systems for trading.

My one time I went long distance I ran out of fuel :fp:

So I've decided to invest in my ship a bit. Now in a very upgraded cobra mk 3. Just dropped 1.6mill credits on a pair of plasma accelerator weapons. Time to go hunt me some pirates 8-)

The initial boom data contracts have dried up and I only made 50 grand :dread:

Any reccomendations for what to do next for entry level money earning?

Finally managed to find a Cobra Mk3, and have been earning 100k+ missions ever since and have already earned back what I spent on it :toot:

Some choice snaps from my adventure so far:

Those shots :datass:

Started making some decent money for the first time tonight. Still in the starter ship but had some missions to take 2 items of something to a destination not too far away. Went to jump, can't do it because I've got the basic frame shift drive :fp: . Back to the space dock and spent 50 grand (all of my money) on the best one I could get, then made my way to the system. Piece of piss, 100k thankyouverymuch. At this new place were two more along with boom data for the same systems so in all I ended up with 370k after an hours play :toot: I'd like to get a freighter ship (I assume they do them, I've never had another ship in this) and then run 10+ items of things and make some serious money.

Some gooseberry fool videos from tonight, but I thought they were some neat moments.

Followed a ship out of the dock:

Then jumped to a nice system with a few ringed planets (going to go to the belt next time):

This game is basically like life in the first world. You could do nothing and live on benefits or work hard and have some luxuries, but if you have no applied interests or hobbies or life goals and just sit in a chair twiddling your thumbs, it is a miserably dull existence. A true RPG. Literally nothing whatsoever is set out for you.

Been targeted 3 times by interdiction whilst in supercruise since moving into my Cobra, probably a by-product of being able to carry higher value cargo.

Managed to escape every time, suck it pirates 8-)

So, what happens if your ship gets blown up?
Do you have to make do with whatever replacement you can afford, or can you get your old ship back, by way of repair etc?

You have insurance against loss just have to pay excess (is higher as ship value increases)

In other news my dual plasma accelerators were crap! Generate so much heat you can fire once then have to wait for cool down! Luckily I sold for full refund and bought a combo of tracking pulse lasers and heavy cannons. Still mainly doing courier missions as they generate most money for minimal effort.

Might upgrade scanners and go exploring, selling map data! So many Unidentified signals I can go investigte!

I think you can buy some kind of radiator or other heat management for that, not all from the same station though.

Had a great session tonight, went to a random spaceport and saw they had a shipyard, had a little browse and saw I could afford a cobra mk3 :o I've never had anything other than the starter ship in this so was weary of spending the 350k it cost to get it (id only be left with 20k). In the end I thought float it and bought it, but not before taking the fuel scoop, mining laser and vehicle bay off the sidewinder. Fitted them all to the cobra as it has lots of spare bits (4 hard mounts now :datass: ).

Dat offset driving position. Nearly whacked into the dock exit on the way out and bounced off the floor on my next landing as it's a lot faster and has more momentum. It's so good being able to freight large amounts of stuff (up to 20 units from 2). I did a few missions taking tea and beer around to two small moons that were really close together. Two deliveries to the same moon, just on opposite sides bases netted me 260k :toot:

I'm back up to nearly half a million already having spent the 350k on the cobra. Going to kit this bad boy out with some more advanced stuff once I crack a million.

Also have a passenger/crew seat to my left so I may fill that too.

Space trucking :toot:
