I didn't realise that most systems outside the 'Bubble' were uninhabited and ran out of fuel 400 LY from my home system without a fuel scoop.

I was LOST IN SPACE, but then I remembered someone telling me about the "Fuel Rats" and a quick Google search brought me to their website. I was rescued inside of forty minutes, brilliant.

So now I've bought myself a top-of-the-range 4A Fuel Scoop and with the KGB FOAM mnemonic planted firmly in my mind I'm all set to go exploring again. You usually learn things the hard way in Elite.

That was my cool story du jour.

I like to imagine that Octoroc is journeying into deep space, discovering new planets whilst playing 70s and 80s electronic music on a pretty much non-stop basis. Classic Octoroc :datass: .

The Fuel Rats are legendary. I've not had to use their services yet but I almost want to get myself stranded on purpose just to experience a rescue firsthand :lol:

Nail on the head Jawa. Nineties Trance is getting a look in too. Actually cartographic data is a very good source of income.

I bought a Vulture yesterday, you have to be careful with the load out because if you max everything out you get power/overheating problems. I've settled on gimballed pulse lasers which I can fire almost constantly. I'm not good enough to use fixed weapons. Yet.

I haven't played on it for a while but I almost only played with the Thrustmaster stick I bought. Definitely controlled nicer than with the pad, landing was a cinch even for a noob. The only trick was remembering what all the controls did but it came with practise. I need to get back in this game, c'mon Frontier - give me a PSVR patch and I'll be back in an instant.

It does seem odd that this isn't VR-enabled yet, you'd think it would be the absolute perfect match for it. Your character stays in one position the whole time, all you need to do is look around. You wouldn't even need the move controllers.

It's strawberry floating incredible on pc in vr. Maybe the ps4 doesnt have the grunt to run it without heavy graphics compromises .

Or at least some heavy optimisation of the graphics engine. Lots of work either way, and maybe as a business decision there just isn't a big enough PSVR userbase to justify it.

I was pleasantly surprised to learn that the console versions will also be getting graphics upgrades in the forthcoming Beyond season. Maybe as they are purely cosmetic they will be confined to the Pro/X.

So I stopped playing this for a few months. Tried again yesterday and realised I’d forgotten even the basics :fp: I was fiddling for ages to drop out of FSD before I remembered.

Aak. I'm very close to getting this on PC. Is it fun? Odd question but it's more than a space truck simulator right?

EDIT: Bought. Well, the core game anyway, I'll leave Horizon until I know if I'm fully onboard.

No it's pretty much space truck simulator. Also the base is barebones as gooseberry fool and horizons is almost essential if you want to do anything remotely "fun".

Spent a few hours with it last night and wow, people weren't kidding when they said it explains nothing. The tutorials aren't fit for purpose and the main game just dumps you in a station. I watched a video that had some fully voice acted intro missions but I assume that's part of Horizons.

Did a few data runs and now have about 30000 creds. It's fun, I love the way the ship feels, but if this is it I can see it getting boring pretty quick.

You really have to make your own 'fun' in the game. For me it was the act of piloting the ship and doing as many cool manoeuvres as I could, flying close to asteroids and such. That's with a hotas and vr though, I can't imagine it's very immersive with a monitor and keyboard.

I got really bored of the game in general though. It's too empty for my liking.

I'm going to try and get one of the big ships, Anaconda-esque, although I doubt I'll last that long. I've found a speedrunning guide to earning as much moolah as possible so I'll start working through that.

If it takes me, I'll probably drop the £20 for Horizons as that does sound a lot better.

EDIT: And I'd strawberry floating love to see this in VR, but no way am I plonking down the moolah for that. I mean, I'm using a PS4 pad...

My problem with ED is that basically once the initial wow factor of "IM IN A strawberry floating SPACESHIP IN SPACE" wears off, there is very little to do. Horizons helps in that planetary landing gives you a whole new thing to do but again, once that wow factor wears off you realize there's pretty much nothing to do and the planets are mostly barren with maybe the odd outpost or something. Theres an extreme lack of personality to ED too, all the missions are just lines of text next to static avatars. It doesn't feel like anyone really lives in this gigantic, infinite universe other than you.
I loved the first maybe 10-15 hours of the game, its immersive as hell and oddly relaxing, but really those are very polite ways of saying its an incredibly monotonous, dull ass game. It's pretty much GRIND: THE GAME.

I am finding that it's very grindy, but I'm enjoying it too.

Got a couple of windfall bounties (a 50k and 100k one after another), upgraded my ship with scanning equipment and am now doing the Road to Riches ( https://www.reddit.com/r/EliteDangerous ... un_riches/ ) which should net me 10 or so million creds. After that, who knows...

It IS enjoyable, and I really did enjoy my time with it, if you let yourself get fully immersed you can have fun, it just wears thin after a while.
