That's what I've been using and it's been fine. You can completely customise how it's laid out as well so for example my setup is:

RB/LB - Throttle Up/Down
LS - Pitch/Roll
RS - Yaw/Vertical Thrusters
Triggers - Hardpoints (I.e firing my weapons)
DPad Directions - Set my power systems
Select - Silent Running
Start - Pause
L3 - Boost
R3 - Toggle Free Look on Right Stick

Then D-Pad Directions combined with ABXY to access other systems and controls.

A+Left - Cycle Next Fire Group (You can group weapons systems and switch between them. E.g Pulse Lasers overheat so switch to Gatling Guns)
A+Right - Cycle Previous Fire Group
A+Up - Toggle Hardpoints (Deployed/Retracted)
A+Down - Deploy Heatsink (If installed)
B+Left - Focus On Left Console (Navigation/Targeting)
B+Right - Focus On Right Console (Ship Systems/Status)
B+Down - Landing Gear Toggle
B+Up - Cargo Scoop Toggle
X+Left - Zoom Radar Out
X+Right - Zoom Radar In
X+Up - Focus On Comms Console
X+Down - Engage/Disengage Frame Shift Drive (Hyperdrive)
Y+Left - Cycle Targets
Y+Right - Cycle Target Subsystems (Engines, Weapons etc)
Y+Up - Target Ahead
Y+Down - Target Highest Threat

That works great for me and I've not really had any problems with it. Though it can be hard to remember what they all do. Luckily there's a few core inputs you'll use a lot and the rest not so much.

Though I'd give my soul for a X52 and an Oculus Rift.

To be fair the microtransactions are all cosmetic paint jobs for your ship.

Whether it stays that way is another matter.

I'm pretty confident that's how it'll be for a good while yet. At least I hope it is.

Once they've gotten the base game sorted and ironed out the last of the bugs they're gonna move on to Planetary Landing, which I think they've said will be a paid upgrade. So I would expect to pay another £10 at least if you want that.

But I've loved every minute of it. I'm glad I paid to get into it when I did as I've gotten a lot of fun out of it, and it's been great to see how they've improved it in such a short space of time.

At the very least it's worth the £39.99 if you're looking for a fun, immersive Space Sim.

Ran out of fuel tonight.

Had to self-destruct as I was still in my base Sidewinder and didn't have a fuel scoop. :fp:

Luckily it only cost me the bounty voucher I'd earned after blasting a wrong-un into space bits.

Note to self, make sure you check that systems have places to refuel before you make several jumps.

Rookie mistake man  Came close a few times but never ran out. Ive upgraded to a hauler now and its fuel consumption, and jump distance is so much better its unreal. This game really is brilliant tho. I just cant stop playing it. Made my first 100K today, got one incredibly lucky bounty worth 17K (I got in one shot on a guy being attacked by the feds, and it blew him up and gave me the bounty  ), found a bunch of dropped slaves and tobacco a guy jettisoned after being attacked, sold a load of star data, and generally just strawberry floating about. Some of the vistas are amazing too. Asteroid fields :datass:

I've been playing it long enough to know better which is the annoying part. :?

I'm still just tooling about randomly. Doing some missions here and there. Took on a bounty mission against one guy. Followed him through a couple of systems till I finally found him. Gave him a basic scan to confirm his identity when it told me he was ranked "Elite".

Other wise I'm just saving up for a Cobra. Something I can outfit with a few decent pieces of kit. Dreaming of one of the bigger ships one day.

I installed the game have not played it yet. Worried about lag due to living in Japan does anyone know where the servers are located?

I don't believe there are currently any Asia/Australian servers and the comments I've seen regarding players in those areas are mixed. Some reporting that it's perfectly fine, others saying that it's laggy in places.

You've already got it though so no harm in giving it a shot. Plus I'd expect them to roll out more servers over time anyway.

This game is awesome.

Not allowed to open my X52 til Christmas, but have had a quick run though the tutorials using Keyboard and Controller, and really liking what I have seen so far.

Still not sure about Hypertravel etc. Are there 2 types? Like a inner system one and then one for travelling outter systems? Do I always need to manually come out of Hyper travel, or should I automatically stop at my designation?

The Tutorial isn't really helping me much, but bar that think this is great.

Yeah, there's two types of "frame shift". There's the lightspeed-level travel you use to get around each system, and a hyperspace jump for quickly getting between stars. Basically, one is about traveling really fast and the other is about taking a shortcut when traveling really fast still takes too long. You have to manually disengage to slow down, yeah. You're going close to lightspeed, after all.

There's 2 types of Frame Shift Travel.

You've got System to System travel that is just a case of pointing yourself in the direction you need to go and activating the drive.

Then you've got Supercruise which is for in-system travel between planets, stations, platforms etc. Supercruise is a bit more complicated and takes a little bit of practice.

1. Choose your destination in system and lock on using the Nav console.
2. Point yourself in the correct direction and activate the drive.
3. Speed your ship up until it's sitting on the blue highlighted part and the throttle control indicator has also turned blue (Ideally the lower part of the blue)
4. Wait as you head towards your destination. The ship will automatically speed-up and slow down as necessary.
5. In the bottom left you'll see a display with two orange bars, one which indicates your speed and the other the distance from the target. As you get closer to the target an indicator will appear, usually on distance first, which will move towards the blue section of the bar.
6. Once you get close enough you need to watch for the two indicators to move into the blue sections.
7. Once both indicators are in the blue you can safely deactivate your Frame-Shift Drive and drop back into normal space.

The trick is in managing your speed so you don't overshoot your target, which takes time to get used to. You need to reduce it late enough that it doesn't take forever to get there, but not too late that you fly right past your destination. Keeping it on the blue section of the Throttle control should make it a lot easier though (Step 3) and require minimal tweaking.
Once you've done it a few times it's pretty simple though. The only difficulties I ever have with it now are when someone tries to Interdict me while I'm in Supercruise.

Also, when you come out of a System-to-system jump you'll already be in Supercruise so you won't need to activate the drive. Just pick a destination, lock on and throttle up.

It's all based on large bodies and the gravity they generate. Every time you do a System-To-System jump you'll come out in front of that systems primary star. Basically the FSD locks onto the gravity well of the star and that's how you move around. You can't jump straight from one part of a system to another (e.g from a Station in one system to a station in another), you'll always come into the system at the star. That can be annoying as it means you always need to supercruise to your destination from the Star and some of them can be pretty far away and take a few minutes to get to.

Hope that makes some sense.

Fantastic, thank you, and apologies for my flagrant use of Hypertravel!

I didn't know anything about those 2 Orange bars! I couldn't work out why I kept on arriving at the system's star! I quite like the idea that you have to do some stuff manually. The older games you could pretty much just select stuff and let the AI take control and do it all. Once planet landing is introduced then this will be perfect. :)

Haven't started the game properly yet, will wait to Christmas morning so I can do it properly.

I still call it that all the time. I've been conditioned by a life time of Sci-Fi movies and games to call it hyperspace.

Just recorded a quick video tutorial for it which I'm gonna stick up. I get interdicted twice in it which is a pain in the arse but hopefully it'll give some idea of what I'm talking about above.

It's the galaxy map I struggle with. So many frigging places. If they never added the route mapping it would be impossible to get to specific systems.

So I finally got round to playing the game. I played the private mode but it appears that nothing in the game really functions if you do that so I just got really bored. Then I quickly logged in got attacked, the guy who attacked me was then attacked by a load of security people. I actually shot a security guy and then got blown to pieces.

It looks really amazing and is quite fun and weirdly doesn't feel that complicated although I wish the tutorials were better. I just had to watch a bunch of videos explaining how to play the game.

Sounds like you chose exactly the wrong time to log in.

Yeah it's not too complicated. Once you've gotten your head round the basics it's pretty simple actually.

But the tutorials do suck.

strawberry float it. I've decided that if I can get an X-52 for a decent price in the post-Christmas sales I'll end up buying this.
Cheapest I've found so far is £99.11 on Amazon, but currently out of stock. I suspect because of this game.
