I'm confused a bit by the game, can it be played single player only or do you need a persistent internet connection for it?

Persistent Internet connection.
The only stuff you can do offline is the training exercises.

I don't think that's true. I'm sure I play the game offline, just means you cant get messed up by other players.

Does anyone know what the expansion entails?

It's still 'online' but it disables other players, the online world is persistent.

I haven't gone near this for months, it was great for a the first couple of weeks as Indie has said, but the time and effort you need to put into it to make a dent in progression is incredibly daunting and something I couldn't commit too. The scale of the game is staggering and I really enjoyed how seriously it took the piloting and energy management of your ship, not an arcade space shooter at all. I just wish I had more time to invest in it, but alas, life calls.

I think if it's the one game you turn to for escapism and you do end up investing in it, it would be great. I'm really tempted as a more exotic alternative to euro truck simulator 2, which seems to most comparable game.

I am sure it's more engaging with decent flight stick hardware as well, so it's more immersive. It seems it's that sense of wonderment and discovery is the usp of the game.

Edit: balls the sale is over.

I caved and found a steam gift for sale on eBay and offered 12 quid which was accepted.

Any decent primers on YouTube or somewhere so I'm not hopelessy lost? I know that's part of the appeal.

I made a video a year ago as a quick tutorial on how travelling from System to System and Supercruise Travel (In-System travel) works . It's on my Youtube channel.

EDIT: Here you go. This was a year ago though. I'm assuming Supercruise hasn't changed since then.

Cheers mate. I can put that on my laptop that's on a stand next to my main monitor and follow along.

Just found a local seller doing a Madcatz Cyborg V1 for £7 which is hard to say no to. That should get me going on the control front, and then maybe I can improvise something else.

I'm also going to hook up some MIDI controllers for more in-game hardware buttons using this app: http://www.bome.com/products/miditransl ... ew/classic

Edit: Actually it looks like this is the app you want if you are interested in using alternative input devices: http://glovepie.org/

Got to love this guys disclaimer:

Warning! Use of this product (or any other electrical technology) will destroy the planet with Global Warming, unless you are using 100% Green or Nuclear power! Less than 100% is not enough to stop catastrophic climate change. Living near a green power station doesn't count, since that green power was already sold to someone else. Living near a nuclear power station DOES count as 100% green power, since there is no market for nuclear green power. This is not a license restriction, just a restriction imposed by the laws of physics. Don't shoot the messenger.

Anyone else picked up the horizons expansion? Just fired it up and it seems to have a lot more random cargo etc floating about which makes picking things up on the way to a destination a bit more interesting. Can't afford an SRV yet so I've not been prospecting but I've landed on a few planets

You get the random cargo floating around without the expansion. I've even responded to a few distress calls too.

Finally FINALLY made some actual money and progress in this. Did a few missions that paid 50k odd each, allowing me to buy a vehicle bay and SRV, then accept another mission to go to a planet surface to interface with a computer. Once I did the Base defenses went nuts and I had to scarper back to my ship while under attack. Got under my ship to go back in and accidentally dismissed it :fp: Had to leg it and wait for my ship to come back before flying off for my reward. Got a fuel scoop now too so I can fill up between jumps.

Great stuff

The game is arriving on the PS4 in "Q2 2017" :toot: .

Eurogamer wrote:This new PS4 version will include touchpad controls to allow you to easily swipe through your Milky Way navigation and customise four "hotkeys" via the touchpad to quickly access features which tie into your play style.

Motion controls using the DualShock 4's gyros will also be implemented to let you "fast headlook" around in the middle of combat.

Finally, naturally, the game will get a performance boost on the beefier PlayStation 4 Pro.

Oh yes. I was over at Frontier seeing this on PS4 and PS4 Pro last month – expect six eye-popping pages in the next issue (including an answer to the big PS VR question)…

Spoiler alert: PSVR support won't be there at launch but will arrive in a launch window update.
