Lowering ticket prices to sensible levels means a lot of people people have more money to spend elsewhere and super-millionaire players don't get to have so much money. That's just a straight up fact.

The American Football leagues are structured so there is no top team that always wins everything - no Man U or Chelsea or whatever, because the playing field is pretty level. In UK football, the playing field is a mountain range, with top tier teams on mountaintops pissing on everyone else from great heights. That means that when a lower tier team like Man City or Portsmouth does well, it becomes national news, because the game is rigged against them and it's a miracle they've made it so far. There is something very wrong there.

No, it's not. Footballers wages are so high because of the television rights package and therefore largely funded by Sky.

As an example, Swansea's wage bill was around £30m last year. They earned £5m from gate tickets and around £45m from Sky.

So that makes the 'they're paid by fans paying high prices for tickets' excuse a crock of gooseberry fool, then. Also, it means that ticket prices can be lowered with no effect on player salaries, which means there's no excuse for the big teams not to do it. Sky could probably pay half what it is now and teams would be sucking their cock all day long anyway.

It also suggests you don't really know what you're talking about.

Top dollar at an amateur Brazilian game?

I've never been to one, but I doubt it costs more than 5 pound a ticket

EDIT: that's if it costs at all

It's actually quite masterful the way Rupert Murdoch manages to extract money from the lower classes.

While expensive, if people didn't enjoy the service offered by Sky they wouldn't pay for it.

There are alternative ways of watching live football, both legal (going to a local pub) and illegal (streaming sites).

We do it to Americans and others all the time.

Ah yes, I remember well the time Andy D'Urso's head was left in the middle of Old Trafford by a rampaging Alex Ferguson after he didn't give that penalty to United...

There is of course, some form of arguement to draw towards the ridiculous wages players who have done nothing of note expect for their services (no Tom Ince, you do NOT deserve 40k for only doing well in the Championship, or the £1000 minimum for an Arsenal season ticket), but it's not being made particularly well...

Plural? Hardly. We had an argument about footballers in which I set you right before about footballers and their apparent worthiness of their pay packet and yet here you are banging the same drum again. It appears it's not just your posts in the pics and gifs thread that are terrible and repetitive.

So I accuse you of being dull and repetitive and your answer is to copy my post.

Where do you think Sky’s money comes from? The large bulk of it comes from football fans who pay the subscription in order to watch football. And once again, it is none of your business how other people spend their own money.

I see you also wanted to bring up the economy again. Firstly, although it all seems a lot of money to us, the amount spent on football by fans is a drop in the ocean when it comes to the whole economy. Secondly, that money going into football doesn’t just vanish. The money pays everyone from the groundsman, to the tea lady, to the suppliers of pies and all the medical staff. The players money is taxable. Even if some of the players avoid tax (I have no evidence but it is likely that some do) they are still spending money in this country on houses, cars, nighclubs etc. The ones that are paying full tax will be paying for more nurses and hospitals than the majority of us ever would.

To be fair to Alvin, this is the result of capitalism.

Sky buys up rights, charges Sky-high (pun intended) fees to watch games, passes a fair chunk of that money back to the clubs. Now Sky is in such a position that no one can outbid them for the TV rights and the clubs actually need their money to survive.

The fans, not that I give a gooseberry fool, are being milked for as much as Sky can get away with.

I do, actually; and I feel the same about ex-politicians who earn stupid sums going around doing lectures when real academic lecturers get paid a fraction of what they're worth to society. A certain amount of wealth accumulated through competing or acting or singing or whatever is fine, but I don't think anybody in that aristocratic tier of society should get the hundreds of thousands or millions they might get just for one sparkly appearance.

Why did a socialist like yourself move to the capital of inequality and capitalism (USA)? :slol:

Love. Yeah that's right, love.

Also, getting to live in another society really puts things in perspective. It's no China or Japan or South America like some here go to live at, but it's different to back home.
