So it is true that "they need us more than we need them", but only if we are talking about Australia and Mannyland.

Maybe we should leave the Commonwealth instead of the EU.

Not really, I think they've already started to move some of their operations to Ireland.

Amusement under late capitalism is the prolongation of work.

The Rag's gonna rag.

Leo's a very popular taoiseach these days, so much so even the rag can't really criticize him over here, especially if its his stance on brexit.

A bit off topic, but I find it incredible just how far Ireland has come in the last 10/20 years. Imagine telling somebody in 1998 that within 20 years Ireland would have legalised gay marriage and abortion and would also have a half-Asian gay Taoiseach.

I hear that pro-Vatican newspapers in Italy sometimes run stories about being upset about Ireland. They were such a good Catholic country! What went wrong???

Indeed, they've gone from being the most backward Western country to the most liberal in the space of only a couple of decades.

As an atheist the decline of the church over the last few years has been wonderful viewing.

It’s incredible, I’ve lived through it and can hardly believe it’s happened. Apart from economic policy we’ve become a massively liberal country. It’s all thanks to our younger population (youngest in EU).

Nationalism has morphed into openness to immigrants and being proud of that side of things instead.

I was ashamed of my country for many years but honestly, I’m proud to be part of this movement. We have our banana splits but never large enough to get a voice, it’s brilliant.

Fact check on that UK Sun Headline.

Oddly enough the rag's claims are false.

It’s not like the Sun to lie…..

They know they are lying but they also know that it doesn’t matter. Nothing bad will happen to them for telling lies and their readers will lap it up.

You can expect to see far more of this and for it to get far worse as we get closer to Brexit. The Sun, the Mail and the prominent Leavers all need to push the narrative that it is the EU that is to blame for everything that goes wrong with Brexit. They need to convince people that it would have all been fine if it had been left to them, but that it was hijacked by a petty EU and by traitorous Remainers.

The sad thing is that a significant proportion of the UK will believe absolutely every word of it.

We had those 'lies' on posters during the Abortion Referendum and I was worried they'd have an impact but if anything it seems to have worked against the No vote.

I can't imagine what it must be like to have parties like UKIP just being in existence, I presume it's just infuriating.

It used to be quite amusing to have UKIP around. And then the financial crash happened and people started to actually listen to them. Since then it has veered between being amusing to absolutely terrifying.

UKIP are in an odd position, they were almost consigned to the dustbin of history, but are having a little bit of a resurgence now that the Leavers have moved from “Norway models” to “NO DEAL!”. Either the UK crashes out with no deal, or UKIP are going to be back as a force and they will probably be more extreme than they were before.

I do wonder what would have happened if Farage had been killed in that plane crash. He was charismatic in a way that previous (and subsequent) UKIP leaders just couldn’t manage. I imagine that crash was where the timelines split, forcing us into the worst timeline.

In the same way as we write alternate history fiction about killing Hitler, in 80 years time they are writing alternate history fiction about killing Farage.

The difference is, in 80 years time they have the technology to actually do it. But that weasely bastard managed to escape the plane. :x

Farage is a terminator sent back by Skynet. Farage’s mission is to destroy the world by consuming all of the cigarettes and beer, thus causing a breakdown in legal societal vices. He will start the second part of his mission once the UK legalises weed.

They're now one of the most pro business countries in the world now and, according to the CIA, you're now in the top 10 in terms of GDP per capita.

Our shithole, on the other hand, is now ranked 40th :fp:
