I hope it's sternly worded otherwise what's the point?

A letter, dear strawberry floating god. It's like 80s Points of View.

Twice in a week?

That's great and all but what is it going to achieve?

Do we know what May's play is here? She cannot believe she is going to get any meaningful concessions from EU. So what is the point?

An extra 60p into the coffers of the Royal Mail?

She's so desperately clinging on to power that the tendons in her fingers have completely seized up and she can't actually let go. There's no other sane explanation for this.

She gets to keep her job for a bit longer.

It's a delay tactic. The closer to March 29th that she can move the vote, the more it becomes 'my deal or no deal' with no time for any other options.

Not calling a second referendum at this point is ludicrous. A straight leave or remain poll would be the surest route for May. If we get a leave vote again the remain MPs will give up on looking for ways to keep us in and would likely back her deal against a no deal. If we vote remain she's out of the mess and free to continue to screw us over in classic conservative style.

Also hasn't more time passed now between the first referendum and today, than passed between the last two general elections?

Anyone calling a referendum anti democratic simply doesn't understand what democratic is.

I know she backed herself into a corner and the ERG would lose their minds, but all of her problems could be solved by calling for another referendum. If the public back Remain, she doesn’t have to put up with this gooseberry fool anymore. If the public back her deal she can tell Parliament that her deal is the will of the people and that they are traitorous saboteurs. If the public back no deal, then it’s the publics fault and she can spend the rest of her life saying that she tried to avert disaster.

But she wont do any of that, she will continue with her submarine act and will try and hold on for as long as possible while not allowing either Parliament or the public to make any strawberry floating decisions.

That won't wash. The time limit is entirely self imposed.

No, the first referendum was in 1975. Remain won.

Then Leavers spent a few decades gaslighting the country into believing the EU was the EUSSR and demanding another vote because they didn't respect the original decision.

They finally got their wish for a second referendum in 2016 and told the country how wonderful Brexit would be and how there were no downsides.

They now think that overturning referendums is an awful thing and don't want to ever hold another one as it is undemocratic to ask people the question again.

Yup. The ECJ basically ruled that we can cancel Article 50 at any point we want without needing EU approval. There's nothing to stop it being re-triggered immediately.

So there is no hard time-limit anymore as they can stop no-deal if they want now.
