I think this has been the main result of the internet age in terms of its impact on journalism - the most influential adage is now "everyone's opinion matters". It's essentially electoral suicide to challenge someone's views, no matter how toxic, unless they already hold public office and are therefore fair game. Telling a member of the public they're talking nonsense, even in a diplomatic and reasoned way, is a complete no-go because "muh free speech" is more important than the quality of life of everyone in society. It's why we have flat earthers, climate change deniers, holocaust deniers and neo Nazis given platforms by "centrist" media organisations who would rather generate thousands of comments than actually take a stand.

The Leavers on BBC News this morning were nauseating. Like the worst of QT, but when you can still taste the toothpaste!
One was basically speaking in memes and saying 'I remember when it was Great Britain spelt G-R-E-A-T, not Grate Britain spelt G-R-A-T-E. What does that even mean?
Another guy said 'the fact is the country is too full! Its too full!' Does he realise that immigration outside of the EU is going to continue? When the BBC can't even challenge someone like that who is basing their whole opinion on something that isn't just not true, they've completely missed the point - thats when I have an issue with it.
Another guy said 'we should have more confidence, like we did in Victorian times'.
I mean if thats the people you share your opinions with, maybe its time to check yourself?
I do hate watching the Remainers squirm on these shows though, they are too scared to challenge people and call out peoples bullshit, for fear of looking like a 'knowitall' but come across like a knowitall anyway, because...strangely, they know more about the subject. You cannot call balance between fact and fiction balance, no matter how many people voted for it. In some ways UKIP policy is less crazy than Brexit policy, because at least thats based on actual politics people want, and not the random nonsense Brexit is based.
James O'Brien going to play a clip to show how we deal with Conservatives politicians on Brexit, no idea what it is, but going by past interviews, we really do maul 'em.
Tragically that has all been known since before the referendum took place but nobody seemed to be interested in talking about it the amount of people I had to explain to that didn't know migrants were a net contributor to the economy and by having less of them in the country would mean we would all have to pay back more government debt thanks to bankers

What, but dem immigrants jus take our benefits and send them bak to their own country's.
You can tell that's fake because I spelt their correctly. I staggering how many people haven't grasped that if we shut our EU migrants then we will have to take on migrants from Africa, the Middle East and Asia. And i'm 100% confident that they would rather have someone from the EU moving here than someone from one of those listed areas. They seem to think that we are suddenly going to have loads of lovely shelia's from Australia rocking up to good old blighty.
A no-deal Brexit threatens job losses, food shortages, and catastrophe in the NHS. And this nightmare isn’t just possible -- it’s likely!
The best way to stop it is for the people to vote on the final terms of Brexit. One man can do more than anyone else to make that happen -- Jeremy Corbyn.
If Labour backs a vote, we’ll have taken a giant leap towards the numbers in parliament we need to deliver it. Momentum is growing, and Corbyn's facing massive pressure from Labour members, but he’s worried the public won’t support him.
So let’s show Corbyn a people’s vote would be wildly popular. Sign the open letter -- when it's huge, Avaaz will team up with Labour insiders to deliver it to him at the party’s annual conference in days!
Early next year, Britain will switch from a pro-Brexit to an anti-Brexit country. To be more precise: if not a single voter in the referendum two years ago changes their mind, enough mainly Leave voters will have died, and enough mainly Remain voters will have reached voting age, to wipe out the Leave majority achieved in June 2016.

I was trying to have this conversation the other day with someone who had voted for brexit when i was asking at what point is it right to have another vote as people die and new voters come of age, after all we elect a new government every 5 yrs, surely we should be asking the people again if they want to be in or out of the EU. He didn't like it and refused to enter it saying that the people had spoken and it would be a betrayal of the british voters who have passed away for us to vote again. I just gave up on the conversation as i could see there was no point.
