strawberry floating omnishambles. I think everyone here knows I have no love for the EU, but I hope they tell May to get strawberry floated. My own MP hilariously backed this deal, funnily enough he got a ministerial position last week, but I'll be holding him to account. Not that I voted for him anyway.

From the poles it seems like the wisest course of action would be to put EFTA membership to a referendum as there is more scope for convincing remainers to support a deal than leavers.

Ok now that seems like a significant shift. Daft to remove undecided voters from the poll result though, as if the majority don’t eventually decide one way or the other.

We don’t have to listen to the Poles, we voted out. :x

Remainers don’t want an EFTA style deal, we want to Remain. I’d take EFTA over no deal of course, but that’s not saying much.

And an EFTA deal can’t happen unless the U.K. accepts freedom of movement, so it’s already dead in the water.

Surely May would have been better off allowing the vote to go ahead of she is going to the EU to renegotiate. Although I don't see her getting any concessions anyway but at least being able to say that parliament has rejected this and the only option is no deal would have given her a stronger hand.

If ever there was a day that demonstrated how pathetic and self serving the Tories were it was today. It's so daft what they are doing, because they will only delay the inevitable, but to push us so close to the endgame just to continue to charade is a national disgrace. Government will have to be forced out of their dead cold hands.

If there ever was a video that shows what pompous twats MPs are then this was it.

Lloyd who picked up the mace in Parliament was a member of the Young Parliament and a student council type at my secondary school  I'm kind of proud of him. Odd fellow always spoke in a top English accent and was very sincere, got laughed at for that so I felt bad for him. He ran for Labour PM for Lewes before winning Kemp Town instead because Labour haven't won here in about 70 years. No-one ever expected him to become anything less than a politician.

Can anyone explain to me the Mace's significance? I imagine it represents the sovereignty and power given to parliament by the Crown or something, but it could in theory be taken back if Government totally strawberry floats everything up (which it is).

The mace in Parliament is the symbol of royal authority and without it neither House can meet or pass laws.

The House of Commons mace is a silver gilt ornamental club of about five feet in length, dating from the reign of Charles II. On each day that the House is sitting the mace is carried to the Chamber at the head of the Speaker's procession by the Serjeant at Arms. It is placed on the table of the House, except when the House is in committee, when it rests on two brackets underneath the table.

The Lords uses two maces, one dating from the time of Charles II and another from the reign of William III. One of the maces accompanies the Lord Speaker into the Chamber and is placed on the Woolsack whenever the House meets. The mace is absent from the Lords during the State Opening when the Monarch is in the Chamber in person.

That's a pretty cool protest though.

Withdrawing the opportunity for parliament to essentially opine on a critical piece of introductory legalisation/the deal is almost tantamount to doing the same thing, so I can see why he did that.
