It’s always WW2 with these banana splits.

It's so bloody aggravating, why are they so hung up on it? strawberry floating get over it already, it finished 73 years ago.

It's what happens when those lived through/born afterwards were raised on a steady diet of "us plucky Brits saved the world and beat those Jerry muckers"; clearly ignoring that we have the Russian winter to thank for it all...

I reckon this tweet would suggest that May is going nowhere if Gove is sticking around.

We should all hate Gove. Hes despicable.

But without him, we'd already have had The Honey Monster himself Boris Johnson as PM negotiating Brexit. Scary.

Gove seems like the kind of person who permenantly ends up on the losing team.

In retrospect I wish we did have that. It would have been a case of no excuses if the leader of the Leave campaign came back with a similar deal. Boris strikes me as someone biding his time to take over once the Brexit mess makes everything fall apart and he can be seen to be coming in to fix things without having to negotiate the deal.

Is there anywhere that has kept count of the number of no confidence letters that are known to have been sent?

It’s 19-20 currently.

I think it will be Monday before we reach 48. If we do reach it all.

Do you have a source for that?

Those are only the ones who've gone public or told the press, Only Graham Brady knows the real count and perhaps the Prime Minister if he's promised to give her warnings in advance and time to prepare as rumours suggest. It's not a transparent process, it allows Tory MPs to knife their leader privately if they want to.

Though obviously most MPs suggest the actual number is significantly higher, but we have no way of knowing.

Some ERG members think they've already reached the number required and she's been given 48 hours, but we'll just have to wait and see. Maybe she could convince some of them to back down too?

Boris would have no dealt, and we wouldn't have been able to stop him. It would have been an unmitigated disaster.

I was reminded of the best description of Boris recently;

"He sees which way the crowd is running then dashes to the front and yells "follow me!""

Graham Brady doesn’t give updates to the PM on how many he has. He doesn’t say anything.
19-20 is the public figure.
He won’t say anything unles he definitely gets the 48 or doesn’t.
The whips have said it is likely there will be a no confidence vote. That’s why they’ve been recalled. So several additional letters may have already been sent or will be sent or are expected to be sent.

That’s fairly accurate I think.

The 48 hours notice thing is a valid point as well. That may also be the reason the whips are back. To start the campaigning / lobbying process.

So we probably won't hear about a leadership challenge until Monday.
