I didn't take offence it is ridiculous and I'm annoyed because I was planning to Mauritius with my girlfriend in January.

I do software development we don't actually know what changes will be needed to our software yet. They're hoping we have more of an idea in January.

The team I work in is actually really good but unless something massively changes with way we interface with other departments we'll never finish on time. I finished my last project a month ago and we're still waiting for test servers that should that should have been setup before we started coding.

Oh well, in the event of no deal there will be no flights for a while so it's not like people could go anywhere nice anyway.

I was only thinking this earlier as I’ve just returned from holiday today. I’m unsure what to do about next summer. I would normally book my flights between September and December but I’m worried that Brexit could mess everything up flight wise. Not just from the point of view of no planes flying. I’m sure that will at the very least be sorted by then but will the actual travelling part be hell passport wise etc.

Yeh I wouldn’t bother booking holidays abroad for next year unless you’re going to go in the first few months. I’m not sure if travel insurance would pay out on grounded flights?

I’ve been waiting to put a stack of servers in for a project, replacing a current server hosting a “platinum” service that’s been running high risk (it’s failed a number of times and struggles to do what it is meant to do). It’s basically a like for like swap, but being replaced with more powerful hardware, then copying an SQL database on to it. Nothing complicated. We have now entered our 3rd year of consultation with the government department.

My guess is they wouldn't as it would be out of the airlines control. Not 100% sure though.

I have the option of driving down. It's my parents place in Spain. I drove down this year and flew back and my parents have done the opposite so as to bring the car back at the end of the summer. This gets around the issue of airport hell but just creates the option of hell at the Eurotunnel (brexittunnnel). That place seems to fall apart at the first sign of a small bump in the road otherwise it's generally an easy option when running as normal.

They've actually bought new servers but they're arguing over who's going to set them up. It's stupid because we just spend ages blocked because we're waiting on other people to do sign off on budgets to do stuff, while we charge our pay to their project which massively increases the projects cost.

There's a bit about driving abroad in the 3 guys in a pub YouTube video I posted above. You'll need to buy additional driving insurance as the UK insurance policy won't be applicable anywhere in the world. I think they mentioned something else about Green Cards too

I don't think money is a problem for my thing, just nobody wants to sign off on it. Our hours spent in meetings and doing HLD work for them are billable but we were going to take the hit and absorb those costs in the hardware cost, but it looks like they might be going back to the start again and so we will invoice for our time which is about 50% of the cost of the servers now after 2 years going around in circles
