There not even EU rules are they? It's the French court.

UK will not ‘turn on’ post-Brexit checks of EU goods for fear of border delays
Industry groups say lack of clarity leaves businesses unsure how to manage new rules due to start on April 30

The UK government has told the country’s port authorities that it will not “turn on” critical health and safety checks for EU imports when post-Brexit border controls begin this month because of the risk of “significant disruption”.

Why is the Commission making this proposal?

The withdrawal of the UK from the EU has resulted in decreased mobility between the EU and the UK. This situation has particularly affected opportunities for young people.

The UK has shown interest in the issue by reaching out to a number of Member States on youth mobility.

With this proposal, the Commission seeks to address this matter of common concern in an EU-wide manner.

Doesn't look like the EU's proposals will get traction in any possible government in the near future.

Starmer is far too scared of losing those red wall votes ahead of an election to row back anything on Brexit. Absolutely any sniff of 'weakness' being shown would have Sunak and the right wing press in fake apoplexy. It ain't great but that's where we are with regards the cult of Brexit.
