Bruce Wayne = Batman. You can't replace him - the two are utterly synonymous.

I reckon he is dead, that they didn't show his corpse was, IMO, out of respect for the character.

Although, thinking about it, they could do this with Captain America because he isn't as huge worldwide as Batman. Can't really do it with Bruce Wayne. Ehhh..

I'm going to back up TurnipKing in saying that Bruce Wayne and Batman are synonymous.
