Sky offered me a deal once and when I took it up it wasn’t the same as what was promised. A call to them didn’t help and so I sent an email to Jeremy Darroch and got everything resolved almost instantly. Obviously it isn’t Darroch himself dealing with the queries, but it definitely works to use the contact details for the higher ups.

It took NPower 9 months to let me switch provider. 9 months. After objecting to the move twice, the second illegally (and there's no legal basis for objecting to a move anyway, they should just collect your debt normally if you have one) because there was no outstanding payments.

The old big UK utilities providers are all reeling at just how bad their feedback is, you'd think.

Bizarrely I got a letter today, after responding to a supposed resolution to my complaint (in the form of £70 good will for delayed billing, I think it's the 3rd time for months on end), from the customer services director (with their personal email), and from director of customer relations, both dated 2nd December, saying the complaint was "reopened" and that they were still working on it. What. I thought it has just closed, finally. And that's not all. After paying a £70 or so towards final final bill (the 2nd "final" bill), and crediting the good will, our account currently says £585 in credit, after numerous bill reversals, and that the account is closed. But the person managing the complaint, says our account stands at £0.

I pretty much gave up trying to follow what the strawberry float was happening months ago and am just waiting to see where this train wreck ends.

Brilliantly after sending a screenshot of the account page, I got a print screen back (complete with totally empty 2nd desktop - they obviously don't know how to use a 2nd screen - and hilarious customer service pyramid topped with 'the wow factor"), they have me down as "vulnerable customer". Is that vulnerable in the sense that I am not safe, or vulnerable in that I am a risk to them? As after 8 weeks you can go to the ombudsman, they seem to be shitting themselves.

Ive had zero issues with the new provider Places for people, they even immediately refunded £250 so we could pay off npower in just 3 days. Virtually every other utilities provider I've ever spoken to makes it almost impossible to get your money back, because it's not "company policy" or "it doesn't work that way".

I urge everyone to argue differently.

I think you've mentioned before that you have something like aspergers, GG?* If they've got that on file for you then that's why they'll be calling you a vulnerable customer. It's mostly to do with companies covering themselves against issues with mistreating customers who might have trouble dealing with the company further down the line, but the terminology is a bit offensive.

*If I've made that up, I'm really sorry.

I think it's because of my financial status as we had trouble paying, but I wonder if it has more connotations. You're probably right though. I rarely resort to saying off the cuff that I'm going to find this difficult because x, sometimes I do that to put a spine into a customer rep when I can't be bothered with all the sighing and backtalk because I ramble on a bit and ask them to repeat stuff. Depends how much of a wreck I am.

I can't imagine how awful these companies are for the elderly or really disabled.

GG I don't believe they will have recorded any health condition on your file as under DPA etc you have a right to see what is written about you via a Subject Access Request.

The term Vulnerable Customer is used in the financial industry though. Its allowed and regulators and firms use it to describe customers who are living hand to mouth essentially and where any errors on their account could have a massive impact on their day to day living. E.g. if a payment isn't credited to their account promptly, then any direct debits or standing orders could bounce and/or charges incurred

Yup. Thanks to them we had DD doubled to £180 a month out of nowhere and lied to repeatedly about this being reduced to what we could afford after complaining multiple times, and then had the audacity to charge us unpaid DD charges, and collection charges, which of course also came from the bank. We eventually cancelled it and filed indemnity claims at least twice as it wasn't what was agreed. That was when I decided this was unacceptable and tried to switch.

And what's really telling about all this is we can afford our current energy completely fine, at about £45 a month, in fact they're amazed how little energy we actually used.

strawberry floating awful company npower. Im pretty sure one rep might have lost their job/position because they started arguing with me about what they should do about my complaint. Well.. This is a complaints team, you tell me!! And insisted we couldn't move, provided no reason why not, when there's no legal basis why we can't move whenever we want and there weren't even any exit fees. Total cretin.

Ugh I could go on. Should have gone to the ombudsman from the start but thought it would be simple using the Big Switch website. Nope. Might finally be sorted out now, no idea what complaint they're currently handling as its all paid up and PfP are finally accepting both electric and gas readings (npower let us switch gas but not electric for some dumb reason, so I had to simultaneously deal with 2 fuel companies). This gooseberry fool was so confusing and stressful it made my partner ill, so was fighting it for months trying to get our bills down. Maybe I'll find out if they really do owe us £500 quid, that would be something. We might put it toward a PS4.

Look, I want to write this post for you, but I'm waiting for someone else to get back to me about something. I can speak to them now for you if you want, I can't tell you who they are or what's going on, but just wait and I'll reply first thing tomorrow. They're not there now.

Staydead, I'd like to cancel the order with you for a story about your customer service experience with BT. Jawafour also offers a customer service story, but it's more concise, and with much better delivery times, so I'd rather go with him instead.

Good luck with cancelling, I think the cooling off period has expired.

Its a free market so you can switch to a different person to get a story about BT if you like, however getting your posts asking for one back can take up to 10 working days. Unfortunately all our forum users are busy, your post is important to us. Please hold:
