A simple question here, but one with a lot depth to it.

What's your favourite burger? Is it as simple as walking in McDonald's or Burger King, or is it harder to find? Perhaps Five Guys? A local eatery? One you had on holiday?

What does your favourite burger comprise of? Beef? Chicken? Camel? What toppings (if any?) and/or condiments?

It's too complex an issue for me to answer right now, but I'll give it some thought. Pictures are welcome if you have them.

Can't beat a Birdseye quarter pounder in a fresh roll with a slice of Chedder, some onions and ketchup

There's only two burger joints I'd recommend anyone to go to:

http://www.honestburgers.co.uk/ absolutely epic burgers. Their Rosemary chips are to die for.

http://www.eatdirtyburger.com/ awesome burgers and their Onion Fries are just so godamn tasty too!

If you want really good recommendations on good burger places, I've always found the Burger App good for reviews, alerts for discounts etc http://www.burgerac.com/p/burgerapp-for-iphone.html

EDIT:

Or just use their site.

Five Guys is so

Ed's Easy Diner also does some good ones, though it's all about the milkshakes there...

Had an amazing Black Angus at the Bell Rock Hotel in Germany too

Good topic: I'm mad into burgers at the moment. :datass:

The best in town is Fat Hippo in Jesmond, Newcastle (with sister outlet, Hippo Underground, in town).

I strongly recommend it to any of the North East GRcaders.

http://www.fat-hippo.co.uk/

On request, they served me a Fat Hippo burger (Burger, bacon, chorizo, cheese, caramelized onions and in-house bespoke sauce) in a cronut (croissant/donut cross). I only managed 3/4 of it, but holy shitballs it was heavenly.

Oh, and as a starter they do deep-fried Gherkins. I don't even like Gherkins that much, but they're immense.

strawberry float it, I might have to go this weekend. :datass:

- Byron's Blue Cheese Burger is a reliable source of deliciousness.

- The Diner do good ones too.

- Gourmet Burger Kitchen has jumped the shark.

- I haven't tried Honest Burger as the waiting times/queues are so ridiculous that I end up always going to the Byron nearby instead and having a Blue Cheese Burger.

Christ, I'm actually salivating. Sounds incredible.

Haven't done it in a while but I love making my own. Get a freshly baked bun, slam on a strawberry floating huge chunk of mince layered with onion then top off with a few rashers of bacon and a fat ass stack of cheese.

Oh lawd, that first bit sounds good. Never heard of a Cronut, what's the texture like? Does it flake/crumble? Sounds a bit odd.

Fried pickles are always good, classic Southern American staple. :datass:

I've heard good things about Five Guys and Almost Famous, haven't been to either though. Five Guys is certainly more of a realistic option though, given I'm nowhere near Liverpool or Manchester, which seem to be the only Almost Famous locations.

These two are on my list of local places to try which I've heard good things about:

The Rockstone: http://www.therockstone.co.uk/index.php/burgers.html
7Bone Burger Co: http://www.7bone.co.uk/

Of the burger chains Ive tried its Five Guys every time, I go out of my way when Im in the states to get one, I already know where to head when Im there in October. I like to keep it simple, ketchup, cheese and grilled onions is all you need really. Of the ones locally theres a place in town, its 2 separate pubs but they share a kitchen, in one pub youll get a fried egg on your burger and in the other itll come with bbq sauce and onion rings on top, both are top notch. Theres also a really good chipper nearby, theyre most famous for their pitas, anyone familiar with Cork will know the one I mean, until recently I never got a burger from there but it turns out they do an amazing cheese burger, just the right amount of ketchup, onion, cheese and pickle, made right there to order, I dont get anything else when I go there now.

As for what it should be made of, I had a bison burger once that was really good and lamb is always a nice option, especially when I can get all the free lamb I want, but for me a beef burger is the way to go for a proper good burger. Anything made with chicken, fish or vegetables is not a burger, you need some red meat in there. Cheese is also mandatory, a nice mild cheese is best, I like strong cheese but not on a burger. As for condiments, its whatever you fancy really, I like to try new things so why not throw something a little different on there.

One of my pet hates is when you get a burger somewhere and its a giant meatball in a bun, impossible to pick up, swimming in some kind of sauce, or generally not a proper burger. Pubs are especially guilty of this, trying to overcomplicate it, ladeling on a load of pepper sauce or something, forgetting that a burger is designed to be picked up.

Hmm, I appear to have rambled on and made myself very hungry, damn you and your burger questions Lotus!

This thread has made me hungry.

I've not been in a Five Guys but apparently the one in Birmingham is gooseberry fool so I probably wont bother.

Off the top of my head my fave is a Burger King Angus. I'll put some more thought in to it.

Have to say GBK is very good for burgers and reasonably priced.

My personal favourite at the moment is a beef burger with bacon and blue cheese.
