I recently bought this for £15 at currys, I love most of the burnout games, I 100%ed revenge, although it was a real bastard to do, and I have 100% all of them up to paradise, I will prob start it once I finish everything no Godfather.

It's the purpose of a good demo.

You can't really make your mind up on the demo.

Isn't that the purpose of demos; to give people a fair idea of whether a game is 'for them' or not?

My point was that this demo can't really do that very well.

Paradise only really 'works' when you have the entirety of the game world to race in, the small portion that the demo allows you to play in can't really give you a taste of what playing in the full world is like.

Yeah I hated the demo, but I am enjoying the game. I'm finding a few flaws though. I applaud the open game world and the removal of a front end, but it creates the problem of having to drive everywhere like if you want to change cars for example. It takes a lot of the pace out of the game and puts me off turning it on for a quick blast.

Then there is the crash cam. As cool as it is, I am finding it extremely annoying having to watch the replays of my crashes, I used to turn this off on the old games but just can't find a way to here, or skip it.

Some really nice touches, but I just find a few design problems wind me up a bit.

I agree 100% with this. It's why I've not put a great deal of time into playing it.

The demo had an online multiplayer aspect for a week, then that was taken off. The multiplayer is the best bit though.

I traded it in a while back.

I don't think thats entirely fair.

I think perhaps it might seem that way at the beginning, but in reality when you've played the game for a while, it never takes more than a handful of minutes to get to somewhere you want to go and unless you are at the very end of the game, theres always plenty of stuff to do on the way.

EDIT - In fact thinking about it a little, because the game doesn't have any loading in the world whatsoever (other than changing vehicles I suppose) its probably actually normally quicker to get to the start of an event in this than in any previous Burnouts. And you have something to do before you get there. A much better solution.

It just isn't a real problem the game has.

It is a problem though. There is no way that driving across the map to a junkyard to change cars is as quick as selecting it from a menu.

Don't get me wrong, the open world nature does give a whole host of benefits but it would be wrong to ignore the drawbacks.

I started Burnout Paradise last night on 360, and I don't quite know what I think of it, on the one hand it looks nice and is a risky idea, but for me it just doesn't seem to flow right, its too open, I have played through every single one until paradise, It's just not the same, it seems like a big collect-them-all need for speed/Midnight Club rip off, I really can't see myself playing through this to 100% as it's really grinding my gears.

i played about an hours worth last night, and somethings just don't sit well, for example the now realistic handling, no longer being able to check traffic, (i.e. hit cars from behind.) the crashes, that seem to just slowly replay to you, the way you have to do every challange again when you rank up seems a bit lazy imo.

And don't get me started on all the things wrong with showtime.

Yeah the crash replays are killing it for me. There is no way to turn them off or skip them and it ruins the pace of the game in my opinion.

I liked the old setup of finding the challanges via the menu as well, this open world is ruining it for me, it really doesn't sit right for me.

I thought this at first, give it afew hours and then go back to an old Burnout and you'll realise how backward they are.

Personally I did find it to be a real problem with the game and it's one of the reasons I haven't got round to finishing the final license. I hate the fact that I can't just quick restart an event especially when it has started on the other side of the map.

JiggerJay - I agree that having to redo old races is a cop-out but I'm glad traffic checking has gone, it removed the skill of having to weave your way through traffic.

For me, the open world is good and bad, what they should have done is when you start a race the route is more clearly defined and there are barriers preventing the player from going the wrong way, oh, and a restart option would not have been bad!

The open world makes it easy for online integration and the stunt challenges, however.

I have been trying to like this I really have, but its just not happening, A few things that are really pissing me off about this game is unavoidable (currently on B licence) I hate the fact that if you fail a race or an event the fact that you cant restart it unless you get back to the traffic lights, that really takes some of this away from the experiance. This whole "showtime" mode feels cheap, and is not a patch on the near perfect crash junctions from the previous games.

some of the events are ok I guess, Like Marked man, although putting cops and robbers back in would be so much better.

I hate the fact that everything is all over the screen, you have a radar at the bottom of the screen, then at the top/indicaters tells you which was they recommend you to go, although there has been a few events where it has sent me the wrong way.

EA Announces Burnout Paradise The Ultimate Box
Experience the Ultimate Social Driving Game in One Box

Criterion Games, an Electronic Arts Inc. (NASDAQ:ERTS - News) studio announced today Burnout™ Paradise The Ultimate Box – a special edition release that includes the award-winning Burnout™ Paradise game plus the previously-released Burnout™ Paradise Cagney and Burnout™ Paradise Bikes content updates, and the brand new Burnout™ Paradise Party content. Burnout Paradise Party is an offline multiplayer mode designed to allow up to eight friends to “pass-the-pad” in dozens of Burnout challenges. For players that already own Burnout Paradise, Burnout Paradise Party will be sold separately as downloadable content.

Burnout Paradise Party brings the social fun of Burnout Paradise into an offline environment where friends can pass the pad to play competitively. There are dozens of quick-fire, turn-based challenges where players compete in different stunt, speed and skill events. In addition to Burnout Paradise Party, Burnout Paradise The Ultimate Box will include a host of new features including a restart option added for racing, easier control of the early vehicles, and for the PLAYSTATION®3 computer entertainment system the new Burnout™ Paradise Network. Burnout Paradise Network is another Burnout Paradise social innovation that enables players to keep track of friends and keep up with all the latest Burnout news from either inside or outside the game.

“Whether you’re an experienced player or a gaming novice, Burnout Paradise is a game that anyone can enjoy,” says Pete Lake, Senior Producer at Criterion Games. “With The Ultimate Box, we aimed to deliver the most fun, high quality and high value experience possible to players both online and in the living room.”

Utterly ridiculous.

EDIT - Just to be clear, the game is designed around the idea that you don't have to restart, it might sound like a bad idea, but put any amount of time into the game and you realise that its fine the way it is. By the time it might become an issue (towards the end of the game when you no longer have stuff to do all over the map), you are so versed in the shortcuts and the car you'll be driving is so fast, that getting back to the beginning is never more than a few minutes of fun driving away.

To not have played one of the best games of the year, because of something that is just not an issue with the game...is utterly ridiculous.
