Re-downloaded it & working.

Very impressive update, bikes handle perfectly & the new day/night system is fantastic.

I am missing the crash sequences though, now it just shows the sliding across the road/just resets the player if it's a big crash.

If it's a small crash (hit a car) you'll see the bike sliding down the road, if it's a big crash the player/bike resets...no slow mo of the bike being crumpled/rider flying through the air. :(

I think the new bike license is glitched when you complete a challenge, whenever I win something it says I'm 100% complete.

Its just the screen that comes up when you win though, on the pause menu the license appears to be correct.

No.

There are ingame fake achievements (Paradise Awards), but no new real ones.

The bikes seem to exist in their own completely new section of the game, new challenges, new license, new stats.

Its like having a completely new (albeit much smaller) Burnout game based around bikes.

No you didn't. Released at a "platinum price" It's due this Autumn, but has only been confirmed for the US.

The entire game combined with all the patches as I recall, so maybe if this is the last patch it'll be out before too long.

So far this year, I have eaten NO mince pies.

strawberry floating hell, I think I've sold my 360 copy.

Was really looking forward to downloading this, too. I can't believe I've sold it - I always planned to keep it and get back into it at a later stage.

Did I sell it to any of you lot?

This is not without its problems. Here are my thoughts: http://pressstartblog.wordpress.com/200 ... fparadise/

It seems churlish to complain about a free update - and certainly this DLC is remarkably generous - but given how long it has been in development, the various design foibles are more than curious. Paradise it may be, but this game definitely still has a dark side.

I would write about the weather effects, but weirdly I haven't seen any yet!

Too true. You'll know it's all going wrong when I start tap-dancing and put it on YouTube just to get some hits. Actually, that's probably what Denster's already thinking of for his next video diary...

Oh yeah I'd forgotten about that. Will that be free too?

I'd buy the online version if it got released over here. Apart from that tw@ of a DJ, I really liked the demo.

Oooh... Controversial. I'd be inclined to agree, but I get the feeling that Criterion could be using these free updates as a test-bed for future Burnouts, to decide whether bikes and nights races are a popular idea. That said, its clear that a huge amount of effort has gone into this update. The bikes look awesome and the night looks fantastic (the dark buildings in the city centre are weird though - maybe Paradise is undergoing a wave of green thinking ). I noticed you said you haven't had any crash animations on bikes - I have, but they're sporadic, brief and (tellingly) the rider disappears from the bike. The bikes don't get damaged either.

The most I've seen is clouds rolling into and out of the skyline and (fairly thick) fog, but that's it.

I said there weren't any for big shunts. Smaller crashes result in what you've described.

I presume that Criterion's working on a proper sequel at the same time as it's doing this DLC stuff.

I'm having some pretty big smashes now and I'm seeing the animations, whilst sometimes small ones have none. It just seems random. I would guess they've tried to base it on some complicated mixture of the speed of the collision and what you crash into, but it may need more refining. Having bikes gives Criterion a bit of an ethical dilemma - they got around the issue of a game 'about' car crashes by making the drivers invisible, but invisible bikers would look extremely odd.

I'm not sure any of that actually counts as 'problems'.

There aren't any races in there by the way, I wonder if they had problems implementing AI for the bikes.

Oh and it does have a few bugs you haven't mentioned, I don't know if anyone else has seen the 100% bike license glitch I've encountered.

I agree that the day/night stuff could have probably been done better, a bright moon perhaps or something to light up the streets a little more would have been nice. Also as good as it is to have the 'Sunrise' and 'Sunset' times are a little underwhelming.

Not being able to see in a driving game isn't a problem? A lack of boost in a Burnout game isn't a problem?

Not a problem because it isn't true.

Eighthours wrote:A lack of boost in a Burnout game isn't a problem?

No. It really isn't.

The fact is that the bikes look amazing, handle amazingly well and are brilliant to play.

They didn't really need to, but Criterion have also packed in a significant amount of bike exclusive both single and multiplayer structure to go with it.

Complaining about this wouldn't really make sense even if they'd charged us 800 MS points for this content.

Having said all that, there is one other thing I would mention as a negative...the single player content (Burning and Midnight rides) are all far far too easy to beat.

I love it when HSH defends a game no matter what.
