Luckily that has been my attitude to life in general. Also explains why I got so pissed at the wedding I went to at the weekend (a free bar? Don't you know who I am?!?!?!)

Sometimes I wish I stayed renting. The plan atm is to do up our current house and then put it up for rent while we strawberry float off abroad.

Around here, it's £100,000 for a one-bedroom flat. £120,000-£130,000 for a two-bedroom. This is a pretty shitty area as well. If I want to go to a nice area, it's £140,000+ for a two-bedroom flat. :|

I bought a place at the start of the year and although the whole process went smoothly (first time buyer with no chain) it is amazing how stressful it is. I never want to move again (although I would have to if we have kids) as I can only imagine how bad it would be if there was a chain involved.

Well to give you an idea of how much we have had to shell out, we are 40 minutes from London and it has 4/5 bedrooms.... It also has a very nice 1970's decor going on. Groovy. When I say groovy what I mean to say is Artex and timber panelling everywhere. And one of the bedrooms has a free standing shower cubicle in it. And all the rooms have a basin.... My next thread is going to be about how DIY is a pain in the arse. Or it could be asking if anyone know a good divorce lawyer. Or defence lawyer.

And your wife started the proceedings of buying it without you knowing..?
Your reaction should have been a straight up:

Not really, we are kind of impetuous people. I would have been more surprised if she had asked me first

It was like at christmas when I took the kids to the library and ended up buying a car.

Stepped into one house. It was a house. Put in an offer £2,500 over asking that same day. Got highest bid by £500 the next day. Bought it. Moved in 2 months later 8-)

I bought mine about a year ago with the other half, was our first house/home.

It wasn't that bad, i imagine it would have been worse had i needed to deal with estate agents but otherwise it was ok...

the solicitor was a bell but i would annoy them by questioning everything they did and in the end i managed to get money back from them as there was stuff they said they would do and didn't as i told them not to...

all in all not the end of the world and yay I have a house now...

Where can you get a 3 bedroom for £125,000 is more the point! Jesus. Here is a typical 3 bedroom semi-detached where I live.

yeah, although wages are lower as we dont have awesome links to london... take 1hour 53 (ish) to get there so less of a commuter town, hence lower prices

150k minimum for a house where I live. If you want something not completely gooseberry fool you need at least 250k.

I could probably afford to move out but I'm building such a massive deposit living at home I'm sort of delaying it

Horrible, it's a nightmare getting a place and then you have to pay for it.

Glad to have it all behind me. I have no idea how my son is ever going to afford a place of his own. I suspect he might be waiting for us to croak unless he gets a really good career.

I paid £59,000 for my house in 1999. Probably get about £130,000 for it now. It's all relative though.

And it's in Wales.
