Thanks Photek. I rang the bank and they said they don't send that out anymore for standard purchases. Solicitor was happy enough and apologised for wasting my time.
Got my documents sorted as well, so I don't have anything else outstanding to sort until they need more out of me.

Definitely starting to feel some of that home moving stress. To be honest, I'm starting to get a little anxious about it. I'm sure it will be grand once I settle

Got an estimated date for the move. Just over two weeks away. Eek.

I'm in the viewing stages at the moment. Seen about 15 houses but the one I saw last night was offer-worthy. Going to try and book a second viewing for tomorrow but the place only went up on Saturday and one offer has already gone in and been rejected. It's almost as bad as London houses.

Looking in the South Manchester area around Stockport.

House I wanted to look at a 2nd time has just had another offer put in and the agency want me to put an offer in just for the second viewing. Decided that wasnt a smart play (without wifeys input) so just reaffirmed my serious intent to offer and seeing how that goes.

So got my viewing this morning using the above plan, put in an offer afterwards and they asked if it was my best offer and I said come talk to me about it if it doesnt get accepted.

Get a call back saying it wasnt accepted and no opportunity to re-offer. I asked for time to review and she said you told me that was your best offer so be quick about it. Bloody estate agent pressure meant we didnt get time to speak to our financial advisor so put another offer in and said it was best.

That too got rejected. I had since gotten hold of my advisor who said it sounded like the agency had made up their minds to give it to the other bidders so brace for the worst. I decided that we had room still to afford it and negotiate so put in a final offer still under the asking price, given our advisor had said we could stretch a bit further. Agent got a bit pissy and said the other party had already been told they had their bid accepted. Knowing what my advisor said, I restated her job to get the best price for her clients and she shouldnt have confirmed any acceptance until we were confirmed out. Given they had only spoken to us minutes earlier, I doubted the acceptance was recent. Having "told her" she went off with our offer.

And it was accepted! Now just the hard work to start doing all the jobs on solicitors and that. And worrying that we might also get countered.

Estate agents

They have been the worst part about this entire experience for me. They phoned me about 3 times in one day, returned their call and they basically told me to get a move on with sending documents back. I would have been alright with that. But I hadn't even received said documents at that point. They came two days later in the post. The phonecall was borderline passive aggressive

Solicitors want more bank statements from me to see where the money came from for the deposit. Bank are being a gooseberry fool and can only give me 6 months of statement

Just tell them you stole the money.

What kind of bank can only get 6months of statements? I can get a couple of years of them online with bank of Ireland!

I kind of knew it but found out for certain that we got house about 50k below its market price, it was a combination of seller being desperate and previous 'buyers' not being able to get a mortgage at last minute. Mortgage restrictions have been eased over here since 1st of January and the house we in jumped up 30k (was already 20k under next door's asking price). Not only that but missus was talking to guy who works in the bank and said we got the house at a steal, no negative equity for us!

Ulster Bank. I don't know if it's certain types of accounts that they don't keep records for.

I haven't actually heard back from the solicitor. They said it would escalated to their risk manager or something.

Still waiting on a date. Christ on a bike, this is beginning to strawberry float me off.

Interesting. I've been trying to paint our downstairs WC for the past fortnight and if there's something I've learnt from it, it's that I can't stand it. Rolling the walls I don't mind, but it's going along the edges trying carefully not to overstep. I just can't do it. I've only got a small bit left to do now but I think I'll be retiring from the trade after this.

Big masking tape is a necessary. I did our landing there a few months ago without it and it looks like a strawberry floating disaster.

Masking fluid is another option if tape is awkward, it goes on like tipex stuff and peels off like masking tape when done.

We painted the nursery a few weeks back. The walls were okay, the the skirting boards and the gloss It goes strawberry floating everywhere. I now want to paint all the doors though as they all look dirty compared to the nursery door

For painting doors the best way is to take them off surely? Take them down, take them outside on a nice day or into the garage and paint them there. Not having to worry about paint/gloss going all over that way.

Not that I've ever done it before myself. I'll just pay someone else to do it.

Anyone on here a building surveyor or structural engineer? Need to pick your brains if so!
