PostBuying a new television

No doubt this will get moved to ATF but I don't know how often people check there so thought more people would see it here.

Basically, buying a new television but don't know much about models and the like.

Size doesn't matter especially so I guess anything around 32 inches would suit.

I don't know the difference between LCD and LED - does it matter? I won't use it for anything other than watching films and the occasional TV programme. It won't be used for gaming.

Does it make a difference whether the TV is HD ready or Full HD? I don't subscribe to any of Sky's HD channels.

I don't care too much for the brand: I think I'll probably go for a recognised one rather than, say, Tesco's own.

With that in mind, does this one suit my needs?

http://www.tesco.com/direct/toshiba-32bl702-32-full-hd-1080p-led-backlit-tv-with-freeview/103-4372.prd?skuId=103-4372
Or would I be better off buying a better / bigger model for more? Would I notice any tangible improvement in my life if I did?

Are any brands much better (Sony, Samsung) than others (Bush)?

Please, somebody technically minded just come and tell me what to do.

I think it has a summary on page 1 and they are usually pretty quick to help.

That first post hasn't been updated in 3 years. Maybe we need to put some new content in there.

Yah, someone is more than welcome to take over the thread now. I don't work in retail anymore so I don't know what's new and what isn't.

1080p is full hd. You want led for better viewing angles and contrast, generally speaking.

Bush is gooseberry fool, get samsung, Sony, panny, tosh.

I haven't bought a tv in years but from that point of view, no it will make almost no measurable difference to your life.

For what it's worth I've always preferred Panasonic products but the Bravia range has been plenty decent since a time. I really can't remember.

Don't buy toshiba anymore they are still gooseberry fool. Sold their soul to crap brands and stick their badge on.

I'd recommend a Panny Plasma. I have one. I love it.

VT30s are priced well at the moment

Panasonic it is then.

The giants still have a place, but it always seemed to me that they don't have the same brand/upselling tact as Sony does, which is a good thing, as ocasionally Sony products are overpriced and/or gooseberry fool.

It really depends on the department/type of product. For example, film cameras are totally different league to consumer compacts.

Go korean.

Samsung, LG supremacy :datass:

The Koreans are doing quite well these days.

The only thing that's ever narked me off with Samsung is a HDD failure in a laptop, and the hinges on their netbook falling apart.

So their laptops are gooseberry fool, but that's a good Sony-like example of trying to do everything and it's rare to see that work.

TV's are good though, for the most part, my only problem with samsung Tv's are the remotes, they're cheap assed crap, if you get a samsung get a third party multi remote.

Or go LG.

LG aren't that great :dread:

Samsungs top end stuff is great. Their budget stuff is gash.

Panny rules the roost still

Samsung has been good to me. Usually nice designs too.

LG has always been decent but feels cheaper.
