PostBuying a PS4
by Yoshimi » Sat Jul 09, 2016 10:51 am

I've managed to hold out on buying a current gen console so far. I have a decent PC, a Wii U, Vita, 3DS (as well as PS3 and 360).

However I now quite fancy playing Uncharted 3 and a few other games, as well as PSVR when it arrives. I have the chance to buy a 2nd hand PS4, but not sure if I'm being foolish not to wait on the Neo.

For £300 I can get a 1gb Uncharted edition PS4, with Uncharted 4, Odin Sphere Collectors Edition, Overwatch, Doom, Ratchet & Clank, and Valkyria Chronicles.

I have Doom and VC on PC already, but would quite like playing them on a big screen. I have Odin Sphere on Vita, but again would like to play it on TV.

So, does that sound like a good deal? Should I wait for the Neo?

Also, I had PS+ for a year, a while ago and added all the ps4 games to my account every month. If I reactivate my account again, I get all those games, don't I?

I think that if you're a PC gamer, then I'm not convinced you'd need a Neo, because a lot of games are going to look better on your PC, Neo or otherwise.
But yeah it's a great deal, some great games there.

Personally I'd advise waiting for the Neo as it will be able to play all Ps4 games and presumably be able to use the extra horsepower for something other than making the dashboard load twice as fast although I suppose that would be quite nice.

That's like £200 worth of games alone, bite his hand off!

About £190 actually, worth noting that £65 of that is for Odin Sphere.

What the hell, Hugo. I said like £200, not exactly £200.

I know.

I just wondered exactly how much you could get all those games for and it comes out to just over £190 (new), but I thought it was definitely worth noting that a large portion of that amount was for a single game.

Who's selling it? I'll have it if you don't want it.

I'm in the same boat Yoshimi although that offer seems like a fair deal, but my decision is made: I'm waiting for a Neo.

Those games will all drop in price and you aren't buying them new.

So far this year, I have eaten NO mince pies.

I suppose it depends on just how insane Sony go with the price of the Neo.

Will they go PS3 style losing loads on each unit sold or will they go the Apple route and charge a premium.

I think it'll be around the same price as a launch PS4. It's not as spectacular an upgrade as the Scorpio thingy. The 'Base' units will obviously drop in price.

A 1gb hard drive is a bit stingy.

It sounds like you'd be better off buying a Steam Link now to play things like Doom and Valkyria Chronicles on a big screen and waiting for a Neo. There's very little point buying a PS4 if you know that your PC can run multiformat games and your only concern is the location of the PC. I've played a number of games on my Link without an issue. About half my Dark Souls 3 time has been from the Comfy Couch™ in my living room, as the Link streams from my PC in my bedroom, and I was even streaming Dolphin this morning.

As you're interested in PSVR, it would be wise to see exactly what the Neo is and whether or not it offers any benefit to PSVR. At the moment, we only have rumours saying that PSVR will work on the normal PS4 but that's not to say that the Neo definitely won't offer a better experience.

To answer your final question, yes, you would get access to all the PS4 games that you added to your account while you had a PS+ subscription, if you resubscribe.

+1 for wait for Neo.

But I do highly recommend you play Uncharted 4 and R&C when you do eventually get your PS4/Neo.

This is only worth the money if you're a fan of the game, but also know what kind of game you are in for. Because as solid as it is, it gets repetitive *very* quickly. Even though there are multiple playable characters. Looks gorgeous, though, like pretty much every Vanillaware game.

So I spent the weekend thinking it over, but decided against buying the ps4. Thanks again for all your replies.

If Nick, or anyone else is interested in the deal, the guy has it up on Gumtree now. He lives in Linlithgow (between Stirling and Edinburgh). He's asking for £320, but was willing to accept £300.
