This Next Level demo for the Commodore 64 by Performers is incredible. It's around twenty-three minutes in total and there is a sequence from 08:35-ish that is astounding; how'd they get so many games (moving screens and original sound) onto the screen so quickly?

It's great to see that coding on the C64 is still surprising us even in 2023!

The demo scene was very cool back in the day, especially on the Amiga. This C64 brings back a lot of good memories -

Impossible Mission
Bruce Lee
Yie ar Kung Fu
Uridium
Raid over Moscow
Locomotion
Cauldron
Tapper
Pitfall
Ghostbusters
Jetpac
Arkanoid
Grog's revenge
Thing on a Spring
Airwolf
Rastan Saga
Bombjack
Sam fox Strip Poker
Spy Hunter
Monty on the Run

All awesome fun.

Oh, boy, yeah - some fantastic games there, Mommy! From your list, I'd say that Bruce Lee, Ghostbusters and Spy Hunter were my faves!

Oddly enough, Jetpac wasn't officially released for the C64. Despite it being, of course, a huge hit on the Spectrum and later converted for the Vic-20 and BBC, it didn't arrive for the 64. There is an unofficial port(s) floating around but it doesn't quite match up to the original.

I remember playing Jetpac on my friends spectrum every time I went over to his house. That and Rampage.

C64 was where it was at though. That music is still incredible.

I think it's the music that has most nostalgia for me; whilst graphics and playability of many games has aged, the music still seems dang good and I can listen to it for hours. The sound chip was so unique and the tunes that some folk got out of it was (is) amazing.

The intro/loader music for Turbo Out Run by Jeroen Tel / Maniacs of Noise is just incredible. Those drums... and speech samples... on an 8-bit computer from 1982?!?

It's possible via a method of synthesis/sampling called wavetable synthesis if you're interested.

It's the same technique David Wise leveraged for Donkey Kong Country on the SNES. It gives you basically unlimited sonic characteristics (broadly speaking) based on existing sounds but also allows you to create very long waveforms by joining up bits (so memory) together and executing them in sequence.

Man, it's really cool that C64 coding continues to be a fan favourite.

Man, I am also a fan of posting vaguely pleasant statements about programming on vintage computers, with a nebulous username, a precisely matching gmail address and no avatar.

I highly anticipate after meeting an unknown minimum post threshold achievable by posting similarly vague comments that we can enjoy a link to a website that comes highly recommended, according to a coincidentally high incidence of similar posts on other forums on the Internet. It's just wonderful the technology of today, that employs people on slave wages in order to guide people towards making sensible and well informed purchasing decisions from our favourite multi billion dollar corporations.

Dang, why did it have to be the mighty - nay! Legendary! - C64 that was randomly chosen!? It's fine name has been defiled by these antics!

I bet it's some Spectrum fanboy :x . Or maybe Electron :o .

To rectify this, I shall post a classic, tremendous Rob Hubbard C64 soundtrack and I will proceed to listen to it several times. I invite you to join me. Our souls shall be cleansed!
