It's strange how games appeal in different ways. I've barely played COD before but I thought that trailer looked great. The action was fast-paced and the physicality of the bridge exploding and seeing the cars and vehicles fly past was terrific. It's the done thing to slate COD but perhaps I'm a bit more open-minded because I've not really played it. This seemed fresh to me.

The footage I have seen has pretty much killed any interest I had in the game. It's the same bullshit where they are afraid to stop throwing explosions and spectacle at you for a single moment in case they lose your attention.

I queued up at Gamescom yesterday to play the multiplayer. What Activision/Sledgehammer pulled was jaw dropping.

After 45mins waiting in line, with it barely moving an inch, we were finally let in. You were led up some stairs and down into a small auditorium they had built. There was about 100 people inside there already, sat down, with massive video cameras being swung about, some big screens, and some pro gamers. Instead of just letting people play the game, they forced people to sit through another 30 minutes of marketing nonsense. They had a pro gamer tournament, a presenter who kept waffling on about how AW is 'awesome' and some Michel Condry dude was saying how happy he thought it was awesome and how he had to thank the fans...

And then, finally, you were led through and could play two games. And the game played exactly like Call of Duty with an awkward double jump button. Meh. Everyone left saying how pissed they were of having to sit through that. Now imagine queueing for up to 2 hours for that on the general public days.

This year's Call of Duty game will not release on the Wii U console, Activision has confirmed to Eurogamer.

Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare developer Sledgehammer Games told Eurogamer at Gamescom last week that publisher Activision made the decision.

"We're not developing a Wii U version," co-founder Michael Condrey said. "That was a business decision made by Activision to focus us on Xbox One, PS4 and PC. Another studio is doing current-gen. The Wii U wasn't on the business key plan. So that was off our radar, but I know the company's not doing it."

Last year's game Call of Duty: Ghosts and 2012's Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 launched on Wii U. Advanced Warfare will launch on PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 3, Xbox One and Xbox 360 only.

Sledgehammer is making the PC, PS4 and Xbox One versions, with Transformers studio High Moon making the game for PS3 and Xbox 360. In previous years, Treyarch's Wii U division has made a Wii U port.

In an interview with Eurogamer Italy at Gamescom Activision Publishing boss Eric Hirshberg said: "All I can say is we analyse each game and the platforms we think are appropriate for each game each time. It's a judgement call each time. This is the judgement we made.

"We want to make sure we're bringing the games to the platforms where the audiences for our games live. Nintendo's a great partner. They've continued to be a great partner and we're going to continue to support them with the IP it makes sense with."

Probably because not a single game on this planet is worth queuing two hours to play only in part

Watched a video of some gameplay last night and it looked like a hybrid of Black ops/Halo/Titanfall to me which isn't really a bad thing. Still will get round to playing at some point, probably borrow it of my brother. I'm not sure what the devs can really do to make me part with some cash for this franchise now and I used to be a right COD nerd.

Wow, feels like Titan fall rip off. Even the gun mechanics seem the same.

I think not. It will be it's own game. A new riff on the COD franchise.

I've skipped the last few CoD's, but I think I may well be back on board for this one.

Might pick up my Xbone a week earlier with this.

That looks great! I've hardly played COD before but I'm looking forward to this. Bit worried that my total lack of FPS skills will make online a tough stretch, though.

This will sit nicely alongside destiny for me as my shooters of choice.
Looking forward to seeing whatSledgehammer do with the franchise.

I kinda enjoyed Ghosts, so I'll probably get this (I went off CoD for a bit and joined forces with Battlefield series)

Modern Warfare 3 was my least favourite COD in 10 years, so here's hoping the team sort it out for this one as I badly want this to be a good game. Domination: random respawns all over the map is a fail.
