Is there anything to suggest that these loot boxes aren't exactly as they have been in the last few CoD's;.entirely optional and can be bought with credit earned from matches?

Unsure about this, I really got back into CoD multiplayer last year but I'm not sure I want to give six months to this when there is so much interesting stuff to play. That WW2 setting though...

As i understand they added straight-up p2w better weapons in the lootboxes after launch in the last one. The question is do you trust activision, a company who patented a system to skew matchmaking towards a pyramid scheme of jealousy and manipulation to extract more money from people, to not do the same again.

They of course will be buyable with earnable resources however it will take ages to acquire enough to do so - all so you are tempted to drop some cash. This doesn't make them optional as you now also watch them fall from the sky and see other people opening them, further reinforcing gambling-like behaviour.

There were some guns with fractionally better stats but the best games in the game were still made up of the base guns. Getting resources really didn't take very long.

I do get where you're coming from but if seeing a box drop from the sky is enough to turn someone I to a gambling addict then surely they must have bigger problems than gaming?

I have more of an issue with how long they took to put the normal stat tracking in IW and that MW seems to have been abandoned.

Right now theres only one person on my list, and hes playing Rising Storm 2.

Spent a few hours on this tonight trying out the campaign and multiplayer. Enjoying it enough, but can't seem to find a way of stopping my game carrying on into the new multiplayer game after one finishes. I end up having to play the next one or quit at the start which apparently I'm penalised for as a loss. None of the buttons, either pressed or held take me back to a menu.

Anyone know how to leave after a game (PS4) without force quitting?

I’ve had a few hours in this. It’s very good. Matchmaking is very slow which hopefully they’ll sort out. Maps are good and it’s a welcome return to the past with no jumping or sliding or wall running.
War mode is fun and varied enough to keep things interesting and encourages teamwork and tactical play.
All in all -it’s pretty damn good. If you don’t like Cod it isn’t going to change your mind but it does the job for me.

About half way through clearing the bunkers at the start of the campaign, I missed a heroic action, so restarted last checkpoint. Except I accidentally hit restart mission, and lost all my progress so far. Even settings hadn't been saved. FFS. I was enjoying it up to that point. Now I'm just pissed off with myself, and have to replay that whole part again.

I thought I'd give the multiplayer a try. Just checking out all the options and mission screens and stuff, and I get kicked out because I've lost connection to the host. In the menus, before you even get near the lobby.

Now I can't even load the MP menu - "Game lobby closed".

Going great, so far.

That's a weird one. On Xbox, at the lobby screen it's just a matter of pressing B (which I guess corresponds to circle on PS4), as you would expect. Maybe it's glitched for you.

It actually is a consolation! I was concerned that the problematic and slow matchmaking was partly due to a relative dearth of players on Xbox.

HQ was initially busy, but now I'm in there alone, so maybe they've switched that off to alleviate the problems or help them find a fix.

Anyway, I've managed to have a couple of matches now, and it's a good proper CoD.
