Maybe they would have gone with that if not for the latest Battlefield game. (Er, that's set during the WW1, yeah?)

The latest Battlefield which does not bring a strong singleplayer experience to the table? :shifty: And since when was Activision afraid of beating a setting to death anyway?

I don't think BF1's lack of strong campaign matters to Activision. They probably just didn't want to be seemingly following in EA's footsteps and so stuck with going back to the game's roots.

Played some more CoD 4 Remasters mp last night, its soo much better than recent Cod's its actually laughable.

Count me in for World War 2, I've heard rumours of it being an 'alternative' world war 2, that would be horrific if it happens. No matter what happens, the MP will be the same, CoD can't accuratley do mp war games like Battlefield, B1 is simply astonishing in its scope.

I'd absolutely kill for a WW2 game with a good single player campaign, the first two COD games were fantastic. I'd love to see something like them, or even Medal of Honour: Allied Assault, running on a modern engine.

Not expecting much from this though, do we know which developer is going to be working on it?

You're right...

COD 2 (2005)
COD 3 (2006)
COD World at War (2008)

Still, it's been nearly a decade, Battlefield 1943 (2009) and BIA: Hell's Highway (2008) is the only other one last-gen that I can remember.

I'd like a CoD: Vietnam. Seriously. I don't think that war has ever been given the attention it deserves. I'm sure CoD would dumb it down, but it was a very long and costly war for all involved. Bonus: some fantastic lush tropical landscapes (Vietnam, Cambodia, Laos...).

WWII just seems like a bit of step back if that's what they are really going for. Korea, I could live with, but not my first choice.

Vietnam could be amazing but I would imagine they are a little worried that it's still a controversial subject.

WW2 is always fine as nobody gives a gooseberry fool about shooting the gooseberry fool out of Nazis. Vietnam would look like a massive superpower gunning down poverty stricken locals that were hiding in tunnels.

I seem to remember a Vietcong FPS game on PC in the Early 2000's that was pretty bloody good. It would be interesting to see some of the other periods of war being played through, I find it far more interesting playing games based (however loosely) on historical events.

Don't forget we had Battlefield: Vietnam back in 2004 (Christ :dread: ). Can't tell you how it performed, but I wouldn't mind seeing an updated version.

I had forgotten about that.

Maybe it's not the controversy they are worried about, maybe they just can't be arsed to animate all the jungle foliage.

I think there probably is some truth in that, Errkal, although I do feel slightly uncomfortable about playing videogames based upon World War II. I didn't really think about it when gaming in the 80s and 90s because the graphics were relatively low tech but, now that things have advanced so much, I kinda wonder if these games need to be treated a bit more sensitively.

Don't get me wrong, I love a good shooter, but I think publishers will have to tread more carefully than in the past.

Massive Air Superiority: The Game™

That would be really boring UNLESS they did it as a special-ops-only type of game, with you getting to be SAS and Delta Force ala Bravo Two Zero (only without the player having their teeth pulled out and being forced to eat their own gooseberry fool :dread: ).

I wasn't really thinking of that sort of thing. My thoughts were more about the massive protests that went on in America over the Vietnam war and the image that that conflict has in the West. I can't think of any movies for instance that show America as the good guys or there being any "glory" in any of its battles.

Plus America technically lost so I doubt they have much interest in reliving it in virtual form. ;)

Not sure what difference you're alluding to there.

I think with WW2 you perhaps have the most recognisable good guy vs bad guy dynamic of almost any historical war and the technology on both sides was modern enough that it wouldn't boring to play which is why it's so easy to make video games out of it, I mean imagine a WW1 game with cavalry charges into machine gun fire and you just have a recipe for disaster. Oh, and for the record I don't believe any war truly has good guys and bad guys.

Sledgehammer are working on this year's one I think since Infinity Ward did last year's and Treyarch the year before.

I thought the way EA handled Battlefield 1 and some of the various factions was pretty disgusting.
