PostCancelled XBox Live
by Beans » Thu Apr 23, 2009 8:30 pm

Finally got around to canceling my XBox Live subscription. I realised I just do not use it enough to warrant paying for it. Nothing to do with the service as it is generally good but when the PS3 offers free online gaming (even if it is a tad quiet), then the decision wasn't a hard one to make. Was a bit of a hassle though as I had to phone up and couldn't do it through the dashboard but oh well.

What I would be interested to know is how many of you feel that you get your moneys worth out of XBox Live? When I was a student and single I had plenty of time to play, but with working full time and having a girlfriend I don't get time to play games as much as I used to.

I rarely use it, but the few times I do, and enjoy it, make the subscription worthwhile.

I've been on a silver account for a few months now. It has allowed me to actually play some of my other games rather than Halo 3 online all day.

I don't play online much but enjoy the co-op games I have with BLH loads. Makes it more than worth it.

Easily been worth it for me. PSN is all well and good but still quite a way behind live. If you don't use it often enough then I can see why you'd get rid.

Aside from the rise of Ninty I'd say that live, and by implication online gaming generally, has been the big success story of this gen. In that regards MS deserve huge kudos for being well ahead of the curve in terms of taking console gaming online.

Quite happy with the service the PSN provides. It works, put it that way - I haven't had any problems playing Fifa 09 for example.

My main problem with it is that I'm first and foremost a single player gamer. Even if I had the subscription I'd be more inclined to play the single player game for the most part anyway, and the few games which I am interested in playing online - preferably co op usually never have many people interested in playing because I tend to buy games so long after they're released.

I think when I get a PS3 I'll be much more inclined to play online as there seems to be a rather large group of people on here who get together to play stuff like KZ2 and MotorStorm regularly.

Despite I'm mostly singleplayer guy, I do like the LIVE enough for early games/downloads, discounts, the ability to dip online anytime I want, and friend list.

I don't think I can live with just Silver account - I often have urges to play online, especially GTAIV, Halo 3, RE5, TF2 and such. Plus £40 for a year is much cheaper than £120+ on MMOs and I usually play MMOs but can't afford em yearly but Xbox Live is worth yearly payment, imo.

I play way too much Fifa online at the moment, it's the only reason I'm considering renewing when it runs out soon.

Yeah, used to be a huge group from here who'd play 360 games loads but a load seem to have left and a number of others have switched to only playing on the pS3. Now it's hard to get game. Gamers are fickle sods sadly. I guess single format sites are needed if you want to be sure of finding a regular group cause multi tend to be more likely to chase the latest thing. Actually, this is a PS site now really isn't it, looking at the posting tendencies, and 360 gamers seem to be largely gone. Subtle but major change in focus really. I guess you just need to have the right people putting sufficient and constant focus on one and it will attract like minded and lose those who aren't. Anyway, totally off topic there.

I'm convinced Live is going free soon anyway.

To be honest, that's all I really play on Live right now. I should really get round to finishing/starting some of the other games I've got.

They charge because people will pay. They tried to charge on GFWL, people laughed at them, now it's free.

We should migrate GRcade to Flarum. :toot:

I use live once a week give or take, and i get new demos when they are out, There is never anyone on my friendslist playing something I wanna play! and if they are usually they are partied up!

I don't mind paying for the service though, what's £5 a month?
