Why you try to spin every bad bit of Nintendo news into a positive? What's the Vita got to do with Captain Toads release date? :?

Do you often contemplate the complexity of life?

Harry mentioned Nintendo's backwards attitude to region locking. I commented to point out that there are worse things Nintendo could be doing regarding the Wii U.

They could be shipping new WiiU's with a fresh, smelly turd from Miyamoto shoved inside the box and it still wouldn't excuse region locking in 2014.

No, Hyrule Warriors and Bayonetta 2. People may not be interested in those two, but they are still being released at the tail end of this year.

This is still an utter disappointment, especially if the USA/Japan are getting it okay. I'm not optimistic for Smash Bros either. Ah well, plenty of time to get that backlog sorted out for 2015!

If USA and Japan get it, then it'll almost certainly be related to european localisation. If it slips in the US as well, then it's probably something more fundamental.

...It does occur that this might be an ideal use for digital distribution, though. Release the English language version online early in Europe, and let people in the region decide whether they'd rather have the game early, or wait for a fully localised release in their own language?

As the fiendish isometric puzzler appears to still be on course for a Holiday 2014 launch in North America, we reached out to Nintendo UK to enquire why the European release has been delayed. A Nintendo UK representative kindly gave us this statement:
In order to optimise the best possible launch timing for Europe, Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker, originally announced as coming to Wii U in Winter 2014 is now confirmed to launch in the European market in January 2015.

This Europe specific delay brings to mind Wave Race 64 and how its European release was seven months after the Japanese one. Maybe I'm imagining it but I think the reason given was that it was the wrong kind of season to release such a game.

I think that was 1080 snowboarding that sat on a shelf for half a year waiting for winter to roll around.

Then there was Excite Bike 64 that came out in europe 2 years after the american version to fill the void in what was the great summer N64 drought of 2001.

Wave Race came out like a month after the console launched in the UK. It could not have physically released before March because of that. I think it may have been 1080, although I can't remember.

That sounds like a bullshit reason. Sounds like localization or it has been pushed back like Tropical Freeze was to accommodate the start of the year.

I'm not quite sure how missing Christmas 'Optimises the best possible launch timing for Europe'. January is pretty much the worst possible launch timing surely.

Probably because Europe has a really bad reputation for not buying a lot of games, most cases I've seen a game normally does 1/3-1/4 in Europe than what it does in the US. With that being the case it makes sense not to put games out to compete with the AAA. Not saying it is right but you don't want to risk the majority of your games sales being a month or two after the actual release (because it's have dropped in price).

They will probably wait until February. I can see it slipping past January for sure.
