Had a lot of fun with it though, charming and really entertaining to play, just the right amount of challenge to keep it interesting without it ever becoming overly frustrating. Occasionally I had little frustrations with the camera and some of the Toad Brigade levels also got a little irritating at one stage where they wouldn't get on the bloody platform I wanted them to :fp: . Not a huge lover of the touch-screen/blow on the microphone bits either but I suppose they were trying to justify the gamepad as much as possible and they're fairly infrequent. All minor issues though, an absolute gem of a game overall.

I don't know whether anyone else was the same but I found myself playing this entirely off TV, it was perfectly suited to it and I couldn't help but think how much of a perfect game it would be for playing in portable mode on the Switch.

Couldn't agree more with this. I wish they'd had a toggle for the gyro - sometimes I'd tilt the camera to a not particularly helpful angle without meaning to.

I played it pretty much entirely in off-TV mode, too, and I'd love to see it come to Switch. For some reason I can't see Nintendo doing a sequel, though.

Yeah it was really frustrating in that respect, fell to my death more times than I would have done otherwise. There was a level with lots of boos chasing you in the third chapter which I found worse for that than any others.

I too have a feeling it may be a stand alone game, I do think it could adapt well to another Nintendo franchise though as well. It apparently started off life as a concept for a Zelda spin-off so perhaps like Wooly World/Epic Yarn we'll see it revisited as another franchise.

It would perhaps be a nice fit for an Ice Climbers reboot! More likely as an e-shop only title than a full blown release, which is in fairness what I suspect Captain Toad was supposed to be, judging by the structure of the game.

The game is looking good on both Switch and - perhaps surprisingly - 3DS. Watching that analysis I'm a little unsure about the Switch version's gyro/pointer controls (frustratingly it seems that it's not as accurate as the Wii Remote's infrared tech) and I think I'd prefer the playability of the plucky 3DS version.

But, hey, a demo is out for both so I guess I can try 'em both out!

I've tried out both the Switch and 3DS demos and I've changed my mind.

The games plays well on both formats and, however you choose to get treasure trackin', it will be a fun journey for the Captain!
