Hello Gamesradar.

I am looking for cheap car insurance for a young driver. I am 18, passed test in July. No No claims, no previous insurance. But i do however have pass plus. I am still strugling to get any decent insurance. So Young people of Gamesradar...and those of you who were once young.. Who are you with for insurace...what cars do you have...and how much are you paying? Are there any more bizarre cars that have strangely cheap insurance? or perhaps some loopholes in the system where i wont be prosecuted for being 18 and male. At the moment...2k is about the cheapest i can find on the Hyundai Accent i am looking at.

Go under your parents insurance as a 2nd driver, that's what I did when I was 17 and it was much cheaper.

I can't do that. They know straight away that my parents are 'covering' for me. Especially doesn't work since my parents are split up with 2 diff sets of car insurance

Put one of them as a second driver instead, then. You still save a few bob.

Yes you save about £100. :-) better than nothing but it still doesn't get me below 2k :( So no insurance company reccomendations?

Places like Quinn and Endlseigh seem to be quoting me best atm

S'what I have. It's bitchin'.

Can't really help with insurance. It'll likely be stupidly high whatever you try because you're young. Can't you put the car in your mum (or dad)'s name and then you go second on the insurance? S'what I did with "my" first car (Corsa).

With my Hyundai (my actual first car because that Corsa didn't count as mine really) it's in my name, so I'm the main insured driver but my mum being a second named driver knocked a decent chunk off.

Although it is potentially dangerous, done right you should have no real issues. Put the car in one of your parents names, ideally the one you stay with most, insure the car in their name at their address and have you as a named driver. If you really want to save large amounts of money then this is the only way.

What are the exact details and trim of your car? Things like engine size, number of doors, security devices, stereos etc make a substantial difference to price at your age.

The one i'm looking at is a 1.3i litre Hyundai Accent i. Its 02 reg, no modifications, everything is as it was original. Goat have you had any problems with yours in the past? My dad seems to think they're very reliable.

These are a list of cars that are all in the cheapest insurance group.

Pick one of these cars. Unless you have already purchased the Hyundai.

May be better getting something smaller than a 1.3. Like a 1.0 or something. Perhaps.

I had a bit of trouble with my car but that was down to it being older than an 02 reg. One thing to look out for - which I've heard is a common problem - is with the electric windows. The motor-thing in my driver's side door that controls that electric window is borked which means that window doesn't open (cba getting it sorted). I was lucky that it broke while the window was up. My cousin who also had an Accent wasn't as lucky and his window stopped working while it was down. Though again his was an older car too so it may not be such a common problem or what have you.

I loves my car though.

This. I did it when I got my car, for the first year. Saved me a strawberry floating fortune.

Just shop around for the best price. People tend to buy car insurance based on price, not quality. In the end, you hope to never 'use' your car insurance anyway. I used several of the comparison websites (Go Compare, Tesco, Confused, etc..).

It's what I do, it is technically illegal and is called Fronting. However I get around it by the fact that I put my dad down as owning the car and not me.
